ONE of the more than 200 buffaloes that were trapped in floodwater in eastern Caprivi two weeks ago was injured in a food stampede at an island at Kasika.
Charles Musiyalike of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism told The Namibian yesterday that the bull was injured in the feeding frenzy.’He is now at Chobe Savanna Lodge,’ said Musiyalike. The buffaloes are being fed hay and lucerne and get mineral supplements in the form of salt licks to keep them healthy. Musiyalike said about 200 buffaloes are still on the island surrounded by floodwater at Kasita, while 150 others are stranded at another island at Kabulabula. The Ministry will continue to feed them until they can leave the islands. ‘So far, 20 000 kg of hay has been delivered,’ said Musiyalike.absalom@namibian.com.na
