Bruwer denies all

FORMER Ajax Cape Town and Brave Warriors goalkeeper Danzyl Bruwer maintains that he is not guilty of using any banned substance, despite reports from South Africa indicating that he tested positive late last year.

Yesterday, the South African press reported that Ajax Cape Town have broken their silence about Bruwer’s test results.
In a statement released to the media, the Urban Warriors confirmed that the player had still not returned from Namibia, where he spent the Christmas break.
He had been suspended without pay and ordered to appear before a Safa disciplinary hearing yesterday, the club said.
But when contacted by The Namibian Sport yesterday, Bruwer said he was not aware of any communication regarding his suspension by the club nor being hauled before a Safa disciplinary.
‘I don’t have any information on the issue of testing positive for a banned substance. I had a contractual dispute with the team. They did not honour it and that is why I did not go back. I can confirm is that I was tested, but I never received the results of the test and I did not appear before any committee,’ he said.
According to Kick-Off, the Ajax statement reads: ‘Mr Denzyl Bruwer was randomly selected to provide a urine sample to the officials of the South African Institute for a Drug Free Sport after the Ajax Cape Town vs Free State Stars game at the Athlone Stadium on November 15, 2008.
‘The sample provided by Mr Bruwer tested positive for a banned substance and SAFA was informed of the result.
‘A disciplinary hearing was held at Ikamva and Mr Bruwer was suspended with full pay pending the outcome of the testing of the ‘B’ sample.
‘The player returned home to Namibia for the Christmas break and has failed to report for training since January 2.
‘Ajax Cape Town then informed the League that Bruwer was suspended without pay for his absence effective from 1 January 2009, until he appears for a hearing at Ikamva. ‘Subsequently the ‘B’ sample confirmed the result of the ‘A’ sample regarding the presence of a banned substance in the urine sample.
