Brilliant Brink wins Namibian Ladies Open

JUNIOR Namibian golfer Laetitia Brink won the Bank Windhoek Namibian Ladies Strokeplay Open on Sunday by a big margin, finishing nine strokes ahead of second-placed Wiltrud Rugheimer.

The 18-year-old Brink carded rounds of 69 and 73 to win the Open with a par total of 142 over 36 holes. It was Brink’s second title on the Namibian senior circuit after she won the Northern Open in Tsumeb last year. Rugheimer finished second on 151 after posting rounds of 72 and 79, while Wilna Bredenhann finished third on 153 with rounds of 79 and 74.It was the 12th consecutive year that Bank Windhoek had sponsored the event, this time to the tune of N$20 000. Besides prizes for the various category winners, each participant also received a gift package at registration.The competition saw a record entry of 43 female golfers, although Namibia’s top female golfer, Bonita Bredenhann, was missing. The 17-year-old Bredenhann, who won the Namibian Junior Sportswoman of the Year award in 2008, is currently competing at the World Youth Golf Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.
