Break in your new takkies to raise money for cancer

THE eighth annual Medi-Clinic Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run will take place on Saturday, October 24. The fun event will be held at the Windhoek Medi-Clinic, at the Cottage Medi-Clinic in Swakopmund and at the Otjiwarongo Medi-Clinic simultaneously.

There were approximately 500 participants at the first event and it has grown over the years to more than 1 200 participants last year.Participants can enter the 10km walk/run for N$20 or the 5km walk/run for N$15 and all proceeds will go to the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN). The team with the best spirit and which has the best dress theme will receive a prize. People are encouraged to make this a fun event and to bring along their dogs, children and prams. Miss Namibia 2004, Adele Basson, who recently gave birth to a daughter, will be participating in the walk and she challenges all young mothers to join her and her daughter in helping raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.For the first time people can pre-register at the Cancer Association in Windhoek from September 19 to avoid queuing on walk day. People making use of the pre-registration will receive their numbers and a map of the route.Participants this year will not receive a medal at the finish of the walk/run but they will receive a pink drawstring bag, which can be worn as a backpack, containing goodies and information on cancer.
