Boy drowns in pond at Tsintsabis

A boy (9) allegedly drowned in a pond at Tsintsabis in the Oshikoto region on Saturday.

According to the region’s crime investigations coordinator, deputy commissioner Titus Ekandjo, the boy has been identified as Kathimune Mushongo.

“It is alleged that the deceased, with a group of other children from the settlement, were swimming in a pond that resulted in the deceased drowning,” Ekandjo said yesterday.

He said Mushongo’s next of kin have been informed of his death.

In a separate incident, a woman (53) from Tsumeb was allegedly scammed out of N$2.7 million by an unknown individual pretending to be a bank official on Friday. The incident happened when the complainant was at a farm.

“It is alleged that the complainant received a phone call via her cellphone from an alleged bank official, who informed her there is suspicious activity on her account.

The complainant was then convinced to provide her ATM card’s pin number,” Ekandjo said.

He said the complainant provided the information and started receiving notifications via internet banking about money exiting her personal and business accounts.

Investigations into the matter continue.
