ASPIRING young boxers from the Khomas region will battle it out at the Khomas Regional Boxing Championships to be held at the A Shipena Secondary School in Katutura today and Saturday.
Secretary general of the Namibian Boxing Federation Joe Kaperu said that on completion of the championships, a Khomas regional team would be selected to compete at the national Amateur Boxing Championships in Windhoek in December.Boxers from various Khomas clubs including the Soweto Boxing Club, the Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing Academy, the Mistake Gariseb Boxing University, the Central Boxing Club and the Tiger Cage Boxing Club will compete at the championships.According to Kaperu about 50 boxers will compete in 11 different weight categories from the light flyweight up to heavyweight divisions.The championships will be promoted and sponsored by Nestor Tobias who said it was their duty to promote boxing.Trophies to be awarded include a trophy for the best club and trophies for the best bout of the championships. Each category winner will receive a gold medal, the losing finalists will receive silver medals and the losing semi-finalists will receive bronze medals. – www.namibiasport.com.na
