NAMIBIAN lightweight boxer, Jatoorora Tjingaveta, became the newest top ranked boxer in the world and can now fully challenge for a world title like his countryman, Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses, The Namibian Sport established yesterday.
Tjingaveta, the national lightweight champion and who also holds the WBO African lightweight title, was yesterday confirmed as the new number 15 by the World Boxing Organisation.
It means that the young boxer can now have a go at the world title against the champion in that category.
His trainer Nestor Tobias said it was a big achievement for Tjingaveta whom he groomed from the amateur ranks into the paid ranks.
”I am happy for him and now he has joined the class of our world champion Hitman. He will be eligible to challenge for the title, but it will be hard-work from now,” he said.
Moses became the World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion after his victory over Yusuke Kobori in January 3 this year.
WBO Southern Africa representative, Andrew Small confirmed the new ranking of the boxer, saying that he was now placed among the top boxers in the world and has to show his mettle on that front.
Tjingaveta was instrumental in Moses’ victory as he acted as his sparring partner before and during his world title fight. Tjingaveta has an impressive record of 13 fights, 11 wins and 2 losses, with 6 Technical Knock Outs (TKO’s).
