THE Karas Police have retrieved the body of a man thought to have drowned in the Orange River.
Karas Regional Commander Josephat Abel says it is believed that the man, black in complexion and between 20 and 30 years old, died two weeks ago. Police recovered the body on Saturday afternoon after receiving a tip-off from a member of the public who spotted it in the river a kilometre south of the Noordoewer Police Station. The man was wearing only blue underpants and a gold earring.* Meanwhile, less than a week after a man was killed in front of the Fire Fighting shebeen in Keetmanshoop’s Tseiblaagte area, another man has lost his life at the same place.Abel said 19-year-old Loehelen Xavier Fransman was believed to have been stabbed to death.Police have arrested two suspects, Daniel Pieters and John Swartbooi.Abel said residents noticed Fransman’s body in front of the Fire Fighting shebeen at around 06h00 on Saturday. He noted that the stabbing which claimed the life of 24-year-old Ruben Goeieman a week ago happened in front of the same shebeen in the early hours of the morning.Police have arrested Simon Kooper in connection with that murder.Abel warned shebeen owners that Police would soon crack down on illegal as well as licensed shebeens that fail to adhere to the business hours stipulated in the Liquor Act.Police recovered the body on Saturday afternoon after receiving a tip-off from a member of the public who spotted it in the river a kilometre south of the Noordoewer Police Station. He noted that the stabbing which claimed the life of 24-year-old Ruben Goeieman a week ago happened in front of the same shebeen in the early hours of the morning.Police have arrested Simon Kooper in connection with that murder.Abel warned shebeen owners that Police would soon crack down on illegal as well as licensed shebeens that fail to adhere to the business hours stipulated in the Liquor Act.
