Blue Boys get NPL campaign boost

SWAKOPMUND’S Blue Boys football team were hailed as heroes during the town’s last ordinary Council meeting, which was marked with cheers, applause, big donations and vuvuzela-honks by the community and Swakopmund CEO, Eckart Demasius.

It is the first time since the club’s foundation in 1958, that Blue Boys was promoted to the country’s highest level of football, the Namibia Premier League (NPL).They convincingly beat Fedics United of Keetmanshoop 3-0 during the Southern Stream First Division play-off final that was held last month.’Blue Boys Football Club showed great resilience throughout their campaign and are enjoying the prospects of mixing it with the big boys on a weekly basis come 2010/2011 season kick-off. Blue Boys finished the season as the leading scorers and they also leaked the least amount of goals as well,’ a proud Swakopmund Mayor, Germina Shitaleni said.At the council meeting a financial donation of over N$100 000 was made as further encouragement for the team.
