Blatter proposes anti-corruption team

GENEVA – FIFA president Sepp Blatter says he intends to propose the creation of an anti-corruption working group when football’s governing body holds its June congress in Zurich.

‘I will propose this new working group at the start of the Fifa congress in Zurich,’ in June, Blatter told the Swiss paper SonntagsZeitung.Blatter stressed that he wanted to ‘be sure there is no corruption within Fifa’.He added that although the exact remit of the working group had yet to be defined it would contain ‘high-ranking personalities’ from the world of sport, business, politics, society and culture – but he did not divulge any names.Blatter said he did not intend to head up the group himself.Last November, Fifa’s ethics commission suspended two members of the body’s executive committee amid media allegations of bribery in connection with the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, Russia and Qatar winning the right to stage the respective events. – Nampa-AFP
