‘Black September’ strikes

THE Police’s ‘Operation Black September’ anti-crime campaign yielded yet another success this past weekend.

The Namibian Police, aided by the City Police and customs officers, raided Windhoek’s ‘Chinatown’ area on Saturday and confiscated numerous pairs of shoes, 600 pirated DVDs, 35 sewing machines and three industrial machines. Numerous tubes of expired, harmful or banned skin products were also seized.Five illegal immigrants were arrested during the operation.Bevan Simata, Public Relations Officer of Customs and Excise, said the sewing machines and industrial machines were confiscated because the owners could not produce proof of ownership or import documents. They were given time to come forward with the proper documentation.During a smaller operation on Friday, the Police nabbed many motorists who could not show their driver’s licences. The Police once again reminded motorists to have their driver’s licences at hand whenever they get behind the steering wheel.People who own firearms should also take note that they are required by law to keep their guns locked away in a safe when they are not carrying them on their person.Firearms may not be left in cars under any circumstances.Numerous tubes of expired, harmful or banned skin products were also seized.Five illegal immigrants were arrested during the operation.Bevan Simata, Public Relations Officer of Customs and Excise, said the sewing machines and industrial machines were confiscated because the owners could not produce proof of ownership or import documents. They were given time to come forward with the proper documentation.During a smaller operation on Friday, the Police nabbed many motorists who could not show their driver’s licences. The Police once again reminded motorists to have their driver’s licences at hand whenever they get behind the steering wheel.People who own firearms should also take note that they are required by law to keep their guns locked away in a safe when they are not carrying them on their person.Firearms may not be left in cars under any circumstances.
