Black Africa moved within touch of the MTC Namibia Premier League log leaders Cymot SKW and Ramblers, after beating Oshakati City 2-0 in Oshakati on Sunday.
First half goals by Donovan Swartz and Jerome Louis gave Black Africa an important away victory which saw them joining Ramblers on 19 points, one point behind the log leaders Cymot SKW. Black Africa chairman Kandas Paulino said he was surprised by the result.”I was quite surprised by the result because we haven’t beaten Oshakati for quite a long time.It was a great result which puts us up amongst the leaders and we are now focused on winning the league title,” he said.Paulino said they were still awaiting the outcome of their protracted case with African Stars.”The disciplinary committee ruled in favour of Black Africa due to a technicality, but the NFA lodged an appeal and we are still awaiting that outcome,” he said.RAMBLERS MARCH TO BE RESCHEDULED The top of the log match between Ramblers and Cymot SKW was called off after a thunderstorm interrupted play towards the end of the first half and the NPL’s Tovey Hoebeb said they were now holding consultations on when to reschedule the match. At that stage Ramblers were leading 2-0 through goals by Gerson Keister and Samson John and seemed set to win the match.Keister opened the scoring on 24 minutes when he received the ball in the box after an SKW defensive error and beat SKW goalie Sven Wiedenroth from close range.Barely a minute later Ramblers were 2-0 up when Samson John side footed the ball into the net after a great pass by Akwenye.SKW had a great chance on 30 minutes when Arend von Stryk headed goalwards from an SKW corner, but his shot was somehow scrambled off the line. But Ramblers immediately counter attacked and Akwenye missed a sitter when he was put clear by Samson John but with only the goalie to beat he shot over the bar. Then the rain came down and the match was abandoned.THREE IN A ROW FOR PIRATES Orlando Pirates moved up to fourth position on 18 points after beating Mighty Gunners 2-0.Goals by Riaan Cloete and Frans de Muinda gave Pirates their third successive victory under caretaker coach Woody Jacobs, who said he hoped to remain in the hot seat at Pirates.”I am currently the head coach and the team is doing well.I have a bit of experience and have won the title before with Civics, so I have confidence in my abilities and believe it would not be necessary to bring in another coach,” he said.Civics joined Eleven Arrows on 17 points after beating Fedics 3-0 in Keetmanshoop on Saturday.Blue Waters recorded their first win of the season when they beat African Stars 1-0 at Kuisebmund Stadium on Saturday.David Josef scored the winning goal midway through the second half.Blue Waters are however still second last on the log, two points behind Mighty Gunners.Black Africa chairman Kandas Paulino said he was surprised by the result.”I was quite surprised by the result because we haven’t beaten Oshakati for quite a long time.It was a great result which puts us up amongst the leaders and we are now focused on winning the league title,” he said.Paulino said they were still awaiting the outcome of their protracted case with African Stars.”The disciplinary committee ruled in favour of Black Africa due to a technicality, but the NFA lodged an appeal and we are still awaiting that outcome,” he said.
