Big Brother Africa: To be or not to B – Bertha or Lerato?

Big Brother Africa: To be or not to B – Bertha or Lerato?

OKAY people, the die’s been cast.

Either Bertha or Lerato will hit the road this Sunday and once again say hello to Harare or Jozi. As expected, the ‘Big 5’ – Offuneka, Richard, Tatiana, Maureen and Code – all nominated Bertha and Lerato for eviction.Maureen, as head of house (HoH), used her powers to keep the status quo, meaning viewers from across the continent are now voting out either Zimbabwean Bertha, aka B, or South African Lerato.I can’t say I’m not pleased because I want to see how the ‘Untouchables’ feel now that they are heavily on the receiving end.Ouch! It seems Max, Lerato and Kwaku underestimated the quiet people in the house and overestimated their popularity with the viewers.Bertha also seems to have miscalculated her moves. The nominations showed that Big Brother’s so-called-twist – in my view aimed at dismantling the two groups and bringing unity to the house – failed. It is still divided into the Big 5 and T-Unit aka the Untouchables. After the nominations were announced, the mood at the dinner table was sombre with B and Lerato trying to appear strong having a private conversation punctuated with bursts of loud, nervous laughs. The others – Maureen, Code, Richard and Tatiana – ate in silence and ignored the two save for a few moments when a drunk Richard would say something silly and laugh at his own unfunny jokes.Crazy dude! Bertha and Lerato later went to sit in the garden, with B saying ‘I knew it was coming.Remember when we talked about it earlier?’ The strange thing about these two big women is they always think they know what’s happening.Yet, it still seemed they were shocked by the nominations and the aftermath of what will happen when one of them leaves on Sunday. With Maureen on their side, Code, Tatiana and Richard looked very relaxed and unruffled as they are assured of two more weeks in the house, unless Biggie springs a surprise on us all.In the Penthouse, Offuneka celebrated B and Lerato’s nominations, while Kwaku appeared saddened.B IS FOR BERTHA Now dissecting B’s character. The girl – who is my compatriot, mind you – never ceases to amaze.I remember when she came into the house with the Bible clutched to her chest. She would read the Holy Book daily and preach the good word to whoever and whenever. She even castigated Lerato and Meryl for sharing beds with men they didn’t know and were not married to, i.e.Max and Kwaku. The 28-year-old Zimbo from the popular Pentecostal movement known as Hear The Word was a serious and sober born-again Christian who said she had found salvation after years of wild partying, drugs and alcohol abuse. However, it didn’t take much for B to realign her colours like a chameleon. It started with a sip of red wine, ‘progressed’ to cocktails and beer; then a glass, which became glasses. Now she is a fully fledged guzzler who is even proud of her newly (re)found status.I guess her fellow Christians will say she has been reclaimed by ‘the world’ and all its sinful desires and simply given in to earthly desires. But fellow Zimbos would ask ‘Asi chii nhai?’ which translates as ‘What’s up with that?!’ L IS FOR LERATO As for Lerato, the girl has the nerve to question Richard’s morality yet she is in the same boat – she took the married Tanzanian to task over his extra-marital affair with Angolan babe Tatiana.Richard told her it was his game and he knew what he was doing. And Lerato being Lerato used Richard’s problem with communicating in English to put words in his mouth.Later Code who witnessed the ‘interrogation’ could only comment, “She was on you dawg!” Hello L! Remember engaged Max she was so happily frolicking with before he got the boot? I guess we all are quick to see the specks in others’ eyes and ignore the logs in our own eyes. Now Lerato, like her buddy B, believes she has the right to boss other housemates around and yet gets all sensitive and prickly when the same is done to her. That woman can be unnecessarily aggressive, loud and totally annoying. And can someone explain to me why Lerato is obsessed with wearing clothes smaller than her real size, which usually make her look ridiculous and like she’s choking – especially when she binds herself with those wide belts! LUST FOR LIFE As the two possible evictees pondered impending inevitabilities by the Jacuzzi, love, lust, fun and games were manifesting everywhere else.Code confessed his love for Maureen in the bedroom and he told her he was “very ready” to ‘bump’ her.Methinks the penthouse visit this week will be worth viewing.Richianna continued with their love voyage in the hammock.A sobered-up Richard once again told Tati he was seriously in love with her, and the two discussed how they could find each other once outside the Big Brother house.KWAKU AND THE X-FACTOR Meryl announced during her eviction that the world had not seen the last of her and Kwaku, and he told her he would find her outside the house. Now Bertha’s told Biggie she will track Kwaku outside the house, as they had connected emotionally. Are we in for a cat fight to see who will win Kwaku the bull?! And if B is evicted on Sunday, will Lerato live up to her word and kiss Kwaku? Kwaku is on record as saying whatever happens in the house is fake and would not work in the real world. The guy is taking advantage of his sexiness and using the ladies – who find him irresistible – to get to the US$100 000.We wait with bated breath for the unfolding of this love drama. This calls for another reality show all on its own! Finally I just want say I’m so tired of people who can’t move on.Meryl is gone – people, please get with the programme. All the moaning will definitely not bring her back.* Catch all the BBA2 action on Channel 37, DStv.As expected, the ‘Big 5’ – Offuneka, Richard, Tatiana, Maureen and Code – all nominated Bertha and Lerato for eviction.Maureen, as head of house (HoH), used her powers to keep the status quo, meaning viewers from across the continent are now voting out either Zimbabwean Bertha, aka B, or South African Lerato.I can’t say I’m not pleased because I want to see how the ‘Untouchables’ feel now that they are heavily on the receiving end.Ouch!
