Big Brother Africa: The Revolution’s on!

Big Brother Africa: The Revolution’s on!

LIGHTS, cameras, action!
By the time you read this, the Revolution will have kicked off and the housemates’ identities will no longer be a secret.

And you’ll know that the Namibian suspect – one Reon Cloete – headlining in cyberspace is, in fact, NOT our new Big Brother Africa housemate. It’s Edward!! Edward who? Edward Moongo! More than that, we can spill a few beans – The Namibian managed to secure the services of the No 1 Ladies Detectives Agency and got hold of his secret dossier!Edward is 33 years old and a Public Relations Officer.Asked to describe himself in five words, he says ‘funny, flirtatious, sexy, kind and charming’.Edward has five sisters and two brothers. He’s single – ‘it’s complicated’, he says and his favourite memory is his mother teaching him everything a father should. ‘I live by the Oprah Winfrey epithet ‘if you doubt anything, don’t go for it’, and he dislikes inconsiderate people. Having grown up in Sweden, he would love to go back there someday to see his ‘old neighbourhood’. Edward says he entered Big Brother for the challenge and the experience. And he wouldn’t mind winning the money either. In fact, he would love to bring the money back to Namibia. In return, he promises, he’s offering viewers comedy and drama. Our man is a fan of boxing and soccer, and says the best places to visit in Namibia include the Fish River Canyon and Swakopmund.A quick guide to Edward’s favourites:Food: oriental, traditional and seafood; actors: Martin Lawrence, Dave Chapelle; musicians: Wyclef Jean and Joss Stone.PLOYS ANDDECOYSWere we right, or were we right?! As I wrote on Friday, the blogosphere was abuzz with the name of Namibia’s supposed housemate. It was mentioned on at least three websites. More than that, there is a full interview with Reon Cloete on the UCT magazine website. But as I pointed out, given the normal tight secrecy that surrounds the identity of the housemates, it seemed more than a bit odd.It was either a red herring on the part of the show’s producers, an elaborate publicity ploy or the supposed Namibian housemate blew his chances.Wonder whether we’ll ever get to the bottom of it! Is he even a Namibian? Hella, I don’t know!Otherwise, the producers are promising a rollercoaster of a ride, with revolutionary twists and turns, that will keep viewers guessing until the winning housemate walks away with the prize – a whopping US$200 000 this year.A new house, a new presenter – Nigerian television star IK, and, of course 14 new housemates who will be at the mercy of viewers.A reminder that this year Mozambique and Ethiopia will be representing for the first time.Hope you’ve all been banking your zzzzzzzzzzzzs in the meantime!!The fun and games and snot and trane are about to begin …* Viewers can watch Big Brother Africa 24 hours a day on DStv channel 198. The daily show, live nominations and eviction shows will be broadcast on M-Net Africa (DStv channel 102). Africa Magic (DStv channel 107) will broadcast all repeats.
