THE Bafana Bafana technical team announced a 24-man squad for the friendly international match against Japan scheduled for Port Elizabeth’s newly built Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on November 14. Kick-off is at 15h30.
The game was moved to the 48 000-capacity Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium following a decision by SA Football Association (Safa) to play all upcoming home matches at World Cup stadiums. This stadium will host eight World Cup matches next year.’The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is in perfect condition and will allow the players to express themselves freely,’ said assistant coaches Pitso Mosimane and Jairo Leal. ‘Over and above that, we opted for PE following the warm reception we got from the people of Eastern Cape.’The friendly match against Japan will mark the return of Brazilian coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, who has since replaced his compatriot Joel Natalino Santana.Parreira has been in touch with the national association and his two assistants since his re-appointment and has given an input in the selection of this squad. His immediate task will be to haul Bafana Bafana out of the current slump, which has led to the national team falling to 85 on the Fifa rankings. In selecting their squad, the Bafana Bafana technical team were careful not to temper much as they continue to build a solid national squad for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.- Supersoccer
