MADRID – Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello is desperate to see the back of Ronaldo, Antonio Cassano and David Beckham.
This is what, according to sports paper AS, Capello told Real sporting director Pedja Mijatovic during a crisis meeting on Monday. The meeting was called by Mijatovic after Real’s recent poor results, in particular Sunday’s 2-0 defeat away to Deportivo Coruna.According to the digital version of AS on yesterday, Mijatovic “demanded explanations” from Capello for the defeat in La Coruna.Capello apparently responded by saying that he now wanted to build a new young team, around South American newcomers Fernando Gago, Gonzalo Higuain and Marcelo. In addition, according to AS, Capello asked Mijatovic to sell off Ronaldo and Cassano in the January transfer window – and to retract the club’s offer of a contract extension for Beckham.Capello is annoyed with Ronaldo for still being overweight, and with Cassano for his repeated acts of indiscipline.Beckham has been first choice in Real’s last two games but has, apparently, failed to convince Capello.Real have offered Beckham a contract extension until June 2009, under the same terms as his present contract, which expires in six months’ time.Beckham and his representatives are due to meet with Mijatovic and Real president Ramon Calderon next week.SupersoccerThe meeting was called by Mijatovic after Real’s recent poor results, in particular Sunday’s 2-0 defeat away to Deportivo Coruna.According to the digital version of AS on yesterday, Mijatovic “demanded explanations” from Capello for the defeat in La Coruna.Capello apparently responded by saying that he now wanted to build a new young team, around South American newcomers Fernando Gago, Gonzalo Higuain and Marcelo. In addition, according to AS, Capello asked Mijatovic to sell off Ronaldo and Cassano in the January transfer window – and to retract the club’s offer of a contract extension for Beckham.Capello is annoyed with Ronaldo for still being overweight, and with Cassano for his repeated acts of indiscipline.Beckham has been first choice in Real’s last two games but has, apparently, failed to convince Capello.Real have offered Beckham a contract extension until June 2009, under the same terms as his present contract, which expires in six months’ time.Beckham and his representatives are due to meet with Mijatovic and Real president Ramon Calderon next week.Supersoccer
