THE weekend started early for the Big Brother Africa housemates as they put on a highly entertaining, creative and multi-faceted performance on Thursday evening.
As some housemates demonstrated the art of dance, others spoke about HIV-AIDS and acted in a drama production. There was poetry and even a bit of hip-hop in the mix, and Bertha sang a beautiful Shona song, accompanied by Code on the guitar. There was also a traditional fashion show, with each housemate wearing a traditional out?t from their home countries.Meryl did us proud in a colourful, Oshiwambo traditional dress.Viewers on the SMS band were ?lled with praise for the show.De?- nitely very entertaining and quite professionally done, especially considering the amount of time they had to prepare.Big Brother duly rewarded the housemates by granting them the full 80 per cent wagered, even though they had failed in one area of their overall weekly task.A presentation to make all Africans proud. On Friday, the housemates had to work against the clock to build a giant puzzle. One by one, each housemate had 30 minutes to assemble the brain tester. At stake: The housemate to assemble the puzzle in the fastest time would win the title of head of house for the following week and all the nomination power that goes along with it.In a surprising victory, our girl Meryl beat out some of the so-called “smart” people of the house like Jeff and Bertha. She and Richard were the only housemates to actually assemble the puzzle correctly and completely. With a faster time, Meryl just edged out the dreadlocked Tanzanian to win the title of head of house for the week. She will now be able to replace one of the nominated housemates with someone of her choice, if she wants, which should de?nitely take the game up a notch! This victory should silence some of her harsher critics, as she has shown that she is de?nitely more than a pretty face and smoking hot body! Kwaku, it seems, was so chuffed with the curvaceous seductress’s achievement that he gave her a passionate kiss later that same night, right in front of the other housemates who all cheered and clapped.Lerato and Max had quite an eventful evening. There were some tears and a confrontation as Lerato bared her soul to the Zambian Casanova. She dragged him into the toilet where she repeatedly asked if he had made any promises to his girlfriend back home about what he would and would not do in the house.Max, it seems, is in too deep and if his recent withdrawal from Lerato is anything to go by, he seems to have realised how his behaviour with the Shebeen Queen might hurt his relationship with his girl on the outside.I feel a little sorry for Lerato, she really seems to have fallen for Max and she is wearing her heart on her sleeve, going so far as to ‘expose’ herself to Max in the toilet. The camera angle was a little awkward but I de?nitely did see Lerato loosen an item of clothing and tell Max she was willing to bare her soul to him.I was cringing for her! Still, he said he had no restrictions. And the two have cuddled up in bed together most nights.Meryl and Justice had a disagreement which sent Justice into the mother of all sulks. He was camped out outside the diary room door for ages and when Biggie did not open up, he took to sitting all alone on the bathroom ?oor.Even after numerous apologies from Meryl over a comment which some would consider a simple ?gure of speech, Justice could still not let it go.His ego saw him threaten to leave the house.Goodness, the guy really needs to get over himself.I know he has struggled through some traumatic things in the past but there was no malice in Meryl’s comment, which was preceded by an IF, and meant nothing. But, it seems that, for whatever reason, he decided to use it to seek attention.Throwing such a sulk just a few days before the ?rst round of nominations seems to be a rather unwise move.Or is Justice more calculating than we all realise and actually trying to use the opportunity to gain sympathy from his fellow housemates and viewers? * The BBA Web address is:http://www.mnetafrica.com/Bigbrother.There was poetry and even a bit of hip-hop in the mix, and Bertha sang a beautiful Shona song, accompanied by Code on the guitar.
