BANK Windhoek, together with Body Balance, staged the second Body Balance Kids Camp for 2009 in Windhoek during the September school holidays.
A total of 73 children participated in the Body Balance Kids Camp where they received specialised coaching in cricket, field hockey, tennis, karate, soccer, archery, fistball, volleyball, hip-hop, boot camp and functional training. According to one of the organisers, Heiko Diehl, the main aim of the Kids Camps is to try and identify outstanding sport talent at a young age and therefore the Namibia National Olympic Committee endorses these camps.’Bank Windhoek is impressed with the work that has been done with the participants of the Bank Windhoek Body Balance Kids Camp. We wants to see people succeed, we are glad that we could play a small role in the success of our future athletes,’ said Riaan van Rooyen, head of corporate communication and social investment at the bank.’Another advantage of the camp is that children get an opportunity to participate in a number of sport codes, which helps them to decide what sport they like. As the child determines his or her sport code, they are more dedicated than when it was the parents’ decision,’ said Diehl.A survey was done after the first Bank Windhoek Kids Camp in May this year and from the results it is clear that the camps are extremely popular and a valuable intervention. Each participant receives a short report on his or her performance during the week. With this report, parents are in a better position to determine which sport will be most suited for their child.
