Bail granted in licence scam case

THE five suspects arrested last Monday for alleged involvement in a Roads Authority (RA) licence scam were released on N$5 000 bail on Friday.

The five, who made a second appearance before Magistrate Vicky Nicolaidis, were granted bail on condition that they stay away from any Namibia Traffic Identification System (NaTIS) premises, and report to the Windhoek Police station twice a week. The accused were also ordered not to contact State witnesses or any NaTIS personnel.Paulus Himalwa, Willem Ashipembe, Jonathan Khaiseb, Hiskia Kavehita and Shanika Petrus were arrested after an undercover operation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).Information provided by the Roads Authority revealed that there was a syndicate of NaTIS officials allegedly involved in fraudulently selling driver’s and learner’s licences and roadworthy certificates.The case was postponed until May 13.The accused were also ordered not to contact State witnesses or any NaTIS personnel.Paulus Himalwa, Willem Ashipembe, Jonathan Khaiseb, Hiskia Kavehita and Shanika Petrus were arrested after an undercover operation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).Information provided by the Roads Authority revealed that there was a syndicate of NaTIS officials allegedly involved in fraudulently selling driver’s and learner’s licences and roadworthy certificates.The case was postponed until May 13.
