MID-table dwellers Black Africa and Tigers were both in unconvincing form when they dropped all six points in their respective matches at the weekend.
Black Africa suffered a shameful 5-3 defeat at the hands of low-ranked Golden Bees at the Etoshapoort Stadium in Outjo yesterday, while Tigers were whipped 3-0 by Eleven Arrows at the Kuisebmond Stadium, also yesterday. On Saturday, the two Katutura powerhouses failed to impress as Black Africa first fell 1-0 to Oshakati City at the Independence Stadium in the northern town, while Tigers failed to contain Blue Waters by going down 2-1 at the coast.Tigers were fourth (25 points) on the log, while Black Africa occupied the fifth position (24) before they went into the weekend’s matches.Eleven Arrows and Oshakati City were both impressive as they collected six points each, results that will prove valuable as the league campaign is winding down.Oshakati City shot to the top of the table with their 3-0 win against Pirates yesterday, a few hours before Civics engaged African Stars at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek yesterday.City, which occupied the second spot on the log before the weekend matches, made good use of their home advantage by beating Black Africa on Saturday and maintained that form by going past Orlando Pirates with a 3-0 win yesterday.Eleven Arrows took sweet revenge against Ramblers when they shocked the star-studded Pionierspark-based side 2-1 on Saturday at the Kuisebmond Stadium, but went on to beat rivals Tigers with a higher scoring margin the following day.Arrows, who performed excellently until the quarter-finals of the MTC Cup when they lost 4-0 to Ramblers, now have 25 points from their 17 matches. They are now on equal points with Tigers and will move into the top-six bracket on the log standings. Also on Saturday, Orlando Pirates managed to beat Golden Bees with a solitary goal, while Civics powered past Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) with a 3-0 win on Saturday. The win on Saturday still kept Civics at the summit of the premiership with a three-point lead, but City, who played an earlier match yesterday, went past that mark to give them the lead. The match between Friends and African Stars was called off due to heavy rain at the St.Joseph Stadium in Rehoboth on Saturday.Stars led 2-0 in the first half before the match was stopped.Oshakati City has been in devastating form this season and has only lost five of their 21 matches, putting them in a favourable position to seriously challenge for the title which at this stage can be grabbed by anyone.Civics have tried to maintain their unbeaten run since the beginning of the season, but their two losses from 16 matches show that they are championships material.Civics are two-time champions of the league title but this year, their prospects of retaining the trophy look slim, as both Oshakati City and Ramblers have been putting pressure on them and will surely not have any intentions to give up at this stage.Ramblers, who were involved in a late match against Blue Waters yesterday, had their chances to the title shaken a bit by the loss to Arrows, but they are still on course as they were on 29 points from 16 matches before the weekend.Tigers and Black Africa failed their thousands of fans by putting in poor performances away from home. The losses are set to cost them dearly as the survival for relegation starts within the next three weeks.Tigers have now lost seven matches from 18, while BA have dropped eight, also from 18 matches.Pirates, who at one stage this season occupied the bottom spot on the log, helped themselves to a win against Golden Bees, increasing their points to 20 from 18 matches, but found the going tough against City yesterday.A match yesterday also saw Friends taking on SKW in Rehoboth, with the result still pending late yesterday. On Saturday, the two Katutura powerhouses failed to impress as Black Africa first fell 1-0 to Oshakati City at the
