‘BA still not 100 percent’

BLACK Africa are still some way off championship-winning form despite collecting maximum points in their last six matches, the club’s technical director Brian Isaacs says.

The defending Namibia Premier League champions have not lost a match since a 1-0 defeat to Ramblers in early October and signs are that they are back to their best, especially after their masterclass performance against Civics on Friday. BA beat Civics 2-0 and hardly put a foot wrong during the match, but Isaacs feels his side are still to display that imperious title-winning form which saw them defend their league crown without losing a single match. ‘We are playing much better than we did in the first two games when we drew with Orlando Pirates and (then) lost to Ramblers. I won’t say it’s 100 percent at the moment but we are moving forward,’ Isaacs told The Namibian Sport. Following that poor start to the campaign, a worried Isaacs said his players were in need of an urgent attitude adjustment if they were to retain the championship.’The guys are disciplined, competitive and are playing with purpose. They realised that in order to stay on top they needed to work for it and that’s what they are doing.’Now perched atop the league standings after eight games on 19 points – one ahead of African Stars – BA face an equally resurgent Tigers at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tonight (20h00). Isaacs anticipates a high octane encounter against Bobby Samaria’s inconsistent charges, who recorded a morale boosting 3-1 victory over Ramblers to climb to fifth on the log.Tigers are on 13 points and victory tonight will put them within touching distance of the log leaders. ‘We respect them. I expect a good tough match. I know when I was there the players were always pumped up for games against the likes of Pirates, BA or Stars,’ said Isaacs, whose side face another daunting assignment against African Stars before next week’s midseason break. ‘We have set an objective to win all our games because we did not have a good start. The aim is to finish top after the first round and get a good platform to start the second round with,’ said Isaacs.
