BA aim for glory days return

BLACK Africa’s newly appointed technical team can lead the club to the pinnacle of domestic football, says club executive Cassius Moetie.

Moetie believes that Monday’s appointment of Brian Isaacs as technical advisor, Otto Landsberg as head coach and Eric Quest as assistant coach will yield success for the club because they ‘understand the culture of the Black Africa’. The trio were roped in on a year-and-a-half deal to replace former coach Ricardo Mannetti and his assistant Golla van Staden who were sacked in December. ‘As former players of Black Africa I think they understand exactly where the club is coming from and where it wants to be,’ Moetie told The Namibian Sport yesterday. ‘Management believes they are the best candidates for the job at this point and time.’ Isaacs, who had a surprisingly brief stint at premier league rivals Tigers last year, is expected to oversee the entire technical department of the club’s football structures. He is also currently the Brave Warriors caretaker coach.Landsberg will be in charge of the first team and together with Quest are expected to lead the club to league and cup glory, a feat that BA’s management deemed unattainable by Mannetti. However this will the first time both Landsberg and Quest will be in charge of a team in the top flight. Both have served as assistants at the club in the past, but it now remains to be seen if they can achieve their mandate. BA, considered to have the best squad in the country, currently lie third in the Namibia Premier League (NPL), a point behind second-placed Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) and two off top placed Ramblers, who have 21.’They know the set objectives of the club and we have full confidence in them to achieve these objectives,’ said Moetie.’Any contract is performance-based. They will be in charge of the team for the second round of the season and the whole of next season.’Moetie played the diplomat regarding Mannetti’s sacking, saying that he did a good job during his tenure as head coach. ‘I would like to thank the previous technical team,’ he said. ‘They did a good job for the first half of the season.’
