AFTER playing hide-and-seek with the Police for close to a week, the man who allegedly set a shack on fire, killing two people, was arrested at Keetmanshoop.
Sydney Nero (35) is accused of pouring petrol on a shack in Katutura last weekend and setting it alight.
Hendrina Matroos (30) and her eight-year-old son, Albertino, were killed in the blaze during which their house burnt to the ground. Her two other children, a four-year-old girl and a teenage son (16), are still in hospital. The boy has been transferred to a normal ward, and only the girl remains in the intensive care unit.According to Chief Inspector Fabian Musweu, Nero was arrested at Keetmanshoop late Thursday evening and brought back to Windhoek on Saturday. It is suspected that Nero accused a companion of stealing his cellphones and a watch and then went to confront this man’s mother about the alleged theft.Musweu said the woman apparently got involved in an argument with Nero after which he said : ‘You will see what I’ll do…’Nero apparently thought that his drinking buddy lived in the shack in which the Matroos family lived and set it on fire.Nero is expected to appear on two charges of murder and one of arson in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in Katutura today.
