AquaSplash Xtrail gains momentum

MOMENTUM is gathering for the AquaS- plash Xtrail Run and Walk that will take place in the surrounds of Avis on Sunday.

According to event organisers OTB Sport, there are already well over 200 entries for this year’s race and that it was clear that Namibians were following the worldwide enthusiasm for off-road events. Competitors will be expected to cover a distance of 11,5 km for both the walk and run.’The Aqua Splash Xtrail run/walk takes place in the surrounding of Avis, offering great views of the Auas mountains, and as with all trail events there is the big plus of no cars, no honking and no fumes, just pure 100percent nature,’ said Yvonne Brinkmann of OTB Sport. ‘It’s a real treat to have this nature on the capital city’s doorstep.’The event takes place on a combination of trails, cattle paths, no paths and riverbeds. Participants are required to carry their own water and each will be given a drawstring bag for their water bottles. There will also be some emergency water along the route. The route is hilly, which means even the fittest of runners will probably walk some of the uphill sections.’The biggest climb is near the start, as you leave the dam and head into the hills surrounding Avis, then it’s downhill and then another big climb but the rest of the routeis (mostly) gentle, rewarding participants with sloping downhills that allow them to take in the views,’ she said. The total prizes are valued at N$15 000.Entry for participants is N$90 – this includes a Puma running T-shirt for the first 90 entries, an event drawstring bag with AquaSplash water bottle and an event voucher that entitles them to a brötchen and coffee breakfast at the Avis Riding School Restaurant, where the prize-giving will be held.Participants can enter online at www. otbsport.com or at all OTB Sport shops. Alternatively, contact Yvonne Brinkmann at 061 260 312 for further details.
