PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba has called on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to strengthen its capacity in order to carry out its functions effectively and efficiently.
“Since its establishment the commission has demonstrated its commitment to uproot corrupt practices in all sectors of our society and I am fully aware that as a new institution, the commission needs to build and strengthen its capacity,” the President said. Pohamba was the keynote speaker at Namibia’s first commemoration of the International Day Against Corruption yesterday in Windhoek. He urged all Namibians to be on the lookout for corrupt practices.”The responsibility to fight corruption is not only a duty of the ACC alone, and the ACC is not only there to combat corruption in Government institutions but is here to serve the whole country including private sectors.Corruption happens in all other sectors and therefore it is a responsibility which rests on all of us,” he said.Pohamba also called upon all the ACC and the Office of the Prime Minister to ensure that tangible steps are taken by all Goverment offices, ministries and agencies to prevent corruption, implement the Public Service Charter principles, improve service delivery and enhance good governance.”We will not rest until corruption is uprooted from both the private and public sectors. We will continue to fight with an iron fist,” he said.Pohamba added that the country will continue to vigorously pursue the zero tolerance policy on corruption and urged the commission to investigate all suspected incidents of corruption all over the country.Pohamba was the keynote speaker at Namibia’s first commemoration of the International Day Against Corruption yesterday in Windhoek. We will continue to fight with an iron fist,” he said.Pohamba added that the country will continue to vigorously pursue the zero tolerance policy on corruption and urged the commission to investigate all suspected incidents of corruption all over the country.
