THE Right Reverend Nathaniel Ndaxuma Nakwatumbah was installed as the tenth Bishop of Namibia at the Saint Mary’s Parish Church at Odibo last Sunday.

President Hifikepunye Pohamba, who attended the ceremony at Odibo with some of his Cabinet Ministers, described the event as a milestone in the history of the Anglican Church.”The Anglican Diocese of Namibia has been a dependable partner in the fight for peace, democracy, national independence and progress,” said the President. He said the history of the national liberation struggle waged by the Namibian people against the South African occupation regime could not be told without recognising the tremendous contribution and support that the Anglican Church rendered to the liberation movement.”The church played a crucial role in the struggle for our freedom and it continues to be an important spiritual and social partner in the process of social and economic development to improve the living standards of our people,” Pohamba said.Bishop Nakwatumbah plans to take a strong stand against HIV-AIDS.”Let us not forget that our church is HIV-AIDS friendly. We hope to continue with the programmes already running or start new ones,” he said during his address to the congregation.Bishop Nakwatumbah has a Diploma in Theology and a Bachelor of Theology degree and was elected at the church’s elective assembly in November 2005 to succeed retired Bishop Shihala Hamupembe.President Hifikepunye Pohamba, who attended the ceremony at Odibo with some of his Cabinet Ministers, described the event as a milestone in the history of the Anglican Church.”The Anglican Diocese of Namibia has been a dependable partner in the fight for peace, democracy, national independence and progress,” said the President. We hope to continue with the programmes already running or start new ones,” he said during his address to the congregation.Bishop Nakwatumbah has a Diploma in Theology and a Bachelor of Theology degree and was elected at the church’s elective assembly in November 2005 to succeed retired Bishop Shihala Hamupembe.
