Aminuis San youth commits suicide

A YOUNG San man from Aminuis, Piet Isak, who was recently in the news for claiming to have been assaulted by his former employer, allegedly committed suicide last week.

Police Inspector Simon Inaani Kandetu said Isak was found hanging from a tree in at Corridor 13 in the Aminuis district on Tuesday evening around 22h10. He allegedly hanged himself with a piece of wire that he had taken from the home he shared with his girlfriend before running into the veld. Alerted by his erratic behaviour, his girlfriend called on her friends to follow him, but they arrived at the scene too late. The Namibian earlier reported that Isak had accused his former employer of having kicked him in the abdomen in 2009. He claimed that as a result of the attack, he sustained permanent kidney damage and had to be fed through feeding tubes.Isak also charged that the police never fully investigated the attack, and that his attacker had fled but that the latter’s whereabouts were known to the police. The police responded with a press briefing at the beginning of November where they dismissed Isak’s claims that the case had not been investigated fully and no charges had been laid against the attacker. Deputy Commissioner Chris Kalimbula of the Omaheke police said the case was not investigated because Isak had withdrawn the charge against his attacker in 2010.Kalimbula said the police would reopen the case and charge the attacker with common assault. Kalimbula further said that Isak’s feeding tubes were not the result of the alleged 2009 assault, but of a previous suicide attempt when he had drunk battery acid and destroyed his digestive tract. The assault investigation is still continuing.
