Namibian kwaito and Afro-pop singer Joel Namulo, popularly known as Ama Tokolos, has composed a song in honour of founding president Sam Nujoma.
The song titled ‘Dr Sam Nujoma’ praises Nujoma’s contribution to leading the country’s independence in 1990.
The song, produced by Chakies Beatz, was released on various social media and online music platforms recently.
Ama Tokolos told The Namibian he decided to compose a song for the founding father, as he played an important role as leader of the national liberation movement and campaigning for Namibia’s political independence from South African.
In the song, the singer asks all Namibians to salute people like Nujoma and called for him to keep shining.
“I’m very delighted for what he did for Namibia in the past and I want him to receive this song and listen to it when he is still alive,” says Ama Tokolos.
He says the song, which is currently gaining momentum, was also released as a single for his upcoming untitled album.
The song also highlights what to expect from Ama Tokolos in his next music project, he says.
According to the ‘Ekwafo’ and ‘Ndisile Mokasie’ hit singer, the single was a continuation of his music projects, following the release of his latest album, titled ‘The Black Jaquar’.
The 17-track album was released earlier this year and the singer introduced a new genre called ‘Chindja Kuluva style’, a kwaito genre mixed with Afro-pop.
“I introduced this genre to the upcoming artists to follow in my footsteps because this is a type of music that comes with meaning and a message. We can build the nation rather than beefing around with other artists through our music,” says Ama Tools.
He say his new album contains hit songs such as ‘Shaangaa Ndinacha Ochaanawa’, which has been hitting the local top ten competition at Shipi FM and other radio stations, as well as the song ‘Okulanda Kwetu’, to mention a few.
Apart from working on new music, Ama Tokolos says he is working towards performing live countrywide, while promoting his latest album.
“I would like to tell all Namibians to start supporting local artists and for Nascam to start paying artists their loyalty, as they deserve,” says Ama Tokolos.
Ama Tokolos says he is planning to host an event titled ‘Ombandaula Annual Talent Show’ on 30 August, with registration currently open on on his Facebook page.
He is also set to perform at the ‘Reunion of the Aakwandjamba Clan’.
