THE newly renovated building in which the first Caprivi high treason trial is set to resume in Windhoek today following a seven-month hiatus was inaugurated by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana, yesterday.
The building was a disused entertainment hall on the grounds of the Windhoek Central Prison. In extensive renovations, the hall and its annexes have been transformed into a second High Court building in Windhoek. It will accommodate the treason trial, which had been held at Grootfontein until it ground to a halt because of a fatal car accident in which the trial’s three-member prosecution team was involved on March 29.The courtroom will be used afterwards for other trials involving larger than normal numbers of accused people, Iivula-Ithana said yesterday.
