Absa Premiership log leaders Ajax Cape Town face fellow title chasers SuperSport United and BIDVest Wits tonight and on Friday in that order, and if the Cape side gets a positive result from both matches, they will be well on their way to capturing the league title.
The log leaders will be in Johannesburg this whole week for the two games, so it’s most certainly a stern test for the potential league champions. SuperSport host them at the Super Stadium and Wits welcome them to the compact Bidvest Stadium.SuperSport are in second place with 35 points and Wits are fourth with 33.The Gauteng clubs are four and six points – respectively – behind Ajax and with 10 games to go in the league, it is Ajax’s title to lose at this stage.Even if SuperSport beats Ajax tonight they will still trail the leaders and therefore have to hope Ajax lose at least twice for them to take the top spot.Needless to say, SuperSport have to win their next two matches to go tops.In Wits’ case, if Ajax lose their next two games and Wits win theirs, they will be joint leaders. With so much to play for – R10 million first prize – and despite home ground advantage, SuperSport and Wits are under pressure to win their matches against Ajax to continue their quest for the league title. Also tonight, Ajax will be hoping their city rivals, Santos, can do them a favour by beating Wits. The Students travel to Cape Town to face the resurgent Peoples’ Team who have won their last three games and shot in to the top half of the table.A win for Santos will move them further up while victory for Wits is needed to maintain the pressure on the leaders. In this league though no favours are done as clubs aim to finish as high as possible to get a bigger piece of the R29 million to be shared by the 16 PSL teams.Nampa-SapaSuperSport host them at the Super Stadium and Wits welcome them to the compact Bidvest Stadium.SuperSport are in second place with 35 points and Wits are fourth with 33.The Gauteng clubs are four and six points – respectively – behind Ajax and with 10 games to go in the league, it is Ajax’s title to lose at this stage.Even if SuperSport beats Ajax tonight they will still trail the leaders and therefore have to hope Ajax lose at least twice for them to take the top spot.Needless to say, SuperSport have to win their next two matches to go tops.In Wits’ case, if Ajax lose their next two games and Wits win theirs, they will be joint leaders. In this league though no favours are done as clubs aim to finish as high as possible to get a bigger piece of the R29 million to be shared by the 16 PSL teams.Nampa-Sapa
