Absence of PG’s decision delays cemetery rape case for 4th time

THE case against a former security guard accused of raping a woman in the Pionierspark Cemetery early last year has been delayed for the fourth time because the Prosecutor General’s office has not yet made a decision about his prosecution.

The rape, attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances case against Adolf Kahoro (24) has now been left in limbo for seven months already pending the Prosecutor General’s decision about the matter. The case was postponed in mid-September last year for the first time so that the PG could decide what charges Kahoro will be tried on and in what court that would be.Since that first postponement, the case was again put forward another three times for the same reason. On Tuesday, Kahoro was again back in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court to hear what the Prosecutor General’s decision had been.Again it was not available, and Magistrate Elina Nandago was asked to postpone the case again for the PG’s decision to become available.Kahoro is now scheduled to return to court on May 27.The Magistrate remanded him in custody.Kahoro pleaded not guilty to all three charges against him on September 15 last year.He is accused of having raped a 55-year-old woman at Windhoek’s Pionierspark Cemetery, where he was allegedly stationed as a security guard, on the afternoon of January 21 last year.He is also accused of having tried to murder the woman by shooting her with his service firearm. The woman was wounded in the neck, but survived thanks to having slapped away the attacker’s hand just before he fired the shot. The attacker thereafter allegedly fled in the woman’s car, which was found abandoned later that same evening.Kahoro was arrested in Windhoek two days later, and is alleged to have made a confession to a Magistrate the following day.The case was postponed in mid-September last year for the first time so that the PG could decide what charges Kahoro will be tried on and in what court that would be.Since that first postponement, the case was again put forward another three times for the same reason. The attacker thereafter allegedly fled in the woman’s car, which was found abandoned later that same evening.Kahoro was arrested in Windhoek two days later, and is alleged to have made a confession to a Magistrate the following day.
