A sad tale of neglect

A sad tale of neglect

A READER complained in an SMS to The Namibian about the state of the grave of the late Labour Minister Moses //Garoëb in Windhoek’s Old Location cemetery.

‘The place looks terrible and this shows that we do not appreciate and recognise his contribution to the national liberation of Namibia. Why are we treating our heroes like this?’ the reader asked.
Two companies were awarded a tender last month to clean the cemetery.
Workers are clearing away the grass and weeds and picking up the litter. But the responsibility for the upkeep of the graves lies with the families of the deceased.
Some of the graves at the Old Location Cemetery are in superb condition and it is evident that they are very well looked after. But many others, especially the older graves, are in a sad state.
