A Matter of Fact

A REPORT in The Namibian of yesterday, July 17, titled ‘Electricity prices to soar by 2011’ incorrectly stated that bulk prices for electricity were projected to increase to about N$1,20 by 2011.

In fact, these are not bulk prices but projected consumer prices, the management of the Electricity Control Board (ECB) has pointed out. The projected bulk prices for electricity by 2011 are approximately 80 cents (N$0,80) per unit.We regret the error. The ECB also pointed out that yesterday’s report created the impression that the ECB was against large power projects like a proposed coal plant at the coast.”This does not reflect Government policy, we are looking at all options like gas, coal, nuclear and renewable energies,” ECB boss Dr Siseho Simasiku pointed out.The projected bulk prices for electricity by 2011 are approximately 80 cents (N$0,80) per unit.We regret the error. The ECB also pointed out that yesterday’s report created the impression that the ECB was against large power projects like a proposed coal plant at the coast.”This does not reflect Government policy, we are looking at all options like gas, coal, nuclear and renewable energies,” ECB boss Dr Siseho Simasiku pointed out.
