A Forgotten Hero

A Forgotten Hero

ALLOW me to express my deepest dissatisfaction in the way how the government is treating my uncle the late Bethold Kangavavi Kasinee- Himumuine, a true liberation hero. He was the person who brought the late Reverend Michael Scott to the Herero community so that they could petition the United Nations for the liberation of this country, which they did in fact.

He was the one who convinced the late Chief Hose Kutako to allow Michael Scott to petition the UN on behalf of the Herero Chiefs Council for the independence of Namibia. Because of his ideas, Michael Scott requested him to travel to the UN to continue petitioning, but Chief Kutako refused to let him go as he was his right-hand man, and Mburumba Kerina went in his place. The late Himumuine was imprisoned together with Rev Michael Scott by the South African police for their role in the liberation struggle of this country. Unfortunately he fell ill and succumbed. Many people can testify his contribution to the Namibian liberation struggle, especially the Herero leaders, as well as the founding father of the Nation Dr Sam Nujoma. What I want is recognition for him from our Government as he is a forgotten hero of the liberation struggle. The only recognition was a medal for bravery (posthumous) accorded to him by the founding father of Nation.Ester Mbahimua KasineeWindhoek
