4 die in hut fires

AN 83-year-old woman and two of her grandchildren died at Onanghulo village when their hut caught fire on the night of July 19.

The Ohangwena Police’s Constable Abner Kaume Iitumba said that Meekulu Fiina Shilongo (83), Victoria Uugwanga Nakatana (11) and Meyameno Apollos (1 year six months) were asleep at the time. Because of the cold, Shilongo had made a fire inside to keep them warm.While they were asleep, some blankets caught fire and the blaze spread quickly.Iitumba also told The Namibian yesterday that a five-year-old child, Fillemon Thomas from Omakelo village in the Ohangwena Region, died when a hut in his parents’ homestead caught fire on Wednesday.It is suspected that Thomas and other youngsters might have been playing with fire inside.Two of the three children escaped.Because of the cold, Shilongo had made a fire inside to keep them warm.While they were asleep, some blankets caught fire and the blaze spread quickly.Iitumba also told The Namibian yesterday that a five-year-old child, Fillemon Thomas from Omakelo village in the Ohangwena Region, died when a hut in his parents’ homestead caught fire on Wednesday.It is suspected that Thomas and other youngsters might have been playing with fire inside.Two of the three children escaped.
