3 nabbed over cellphones

THE discovery of 154 cellphones hidden in fruit juice containers in the luggage of passengers who arrived in Windhoek on a bus from Johannesburg led to the arrest of two Congolese citizens and an Angolan on Saturday.

The three were arrested after members of the Namibian Police’s Drug Law Enforcement Unit performed a routine search of their luggage, Detective Chief Inspector Barry de Klerk, the Commanding Officer of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit, said yesterday. He said when a number of fruit juice cartons that appeared to be unusually heavy were opened, 154 cellphones were found inside.Eight digital cameras, two video cameras, 27 cellphone chargers and two laptop computers were also found with the men.De Klerk said the items were estimated to be worth some N$500 000.The three suspects are set to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court today.He said when a number of fruit juice cartons that appeared to be unusually heavy were opened, 154 cellphones were found inside.Eight digital cameras, two video cameras, 27 cellphone chargers and two laptop computers were also found with the men.De Klerk said the items were estimated to be worth some N$500 000.The three suspects are set to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court today.
