3 arrested for petrol theft outside Keetmans

THE Police at Keetmanshoop yesterday arrested three suspects who were allegedly syphoning petrol from a tanker truck belonging to Slabbert Burger Transport.
The incident happened about 40 kilometres from Keetmanshoop on the road to Lüderitz.

The Police confiscated a trailer, a Nissan bakkie, a Volkswagen Beetle and 30 plastic containers of which eight were already filled with the allegedly stolen petrol.Police Deputy Commissioner Johannes Tsuseb believes a syndicate is behind the alleged petrol theft. ‘The equipment used in refilling the plastic containers with petrol from the tanker gives us indication that it’s a job of a syndicate,’ said Tsuseb. More arrests are likely. According to Tsuseb, one suspect fled in the Nissan bakkie when the Police spotted them, but was arrested after a Police chase. The tanker truck was filled with petrol at the Keetmanshoop BP petrol depot.
