102 graduate from WAD programme

A TOTAL of 102 Defence Force members and unemployed youth yesterday graduated from courses offered by Women’s Action for Development (WAD).

The group includes 28 NDF members from Windhoek, 45 NDF members from various regions, and 29 unemployed youth from Katutura.They completed courses in computer training, office administration and typing.Speaking at the event, Minister of Defence, Charles Namoloh emphasised the importance of education and training, adding that the skills and knowledge gained through such programmes were vital to enhancing the way in which the NDF functions.’People who perform vital national services should be highly skilled in the execution of their duties, since a lack of skills exercises a tremendous drag effect on their efficiency, while also having dire implications on the country’s economy,’ WAD Director Veronica de Klerk added.She congratulated the youth who participated in the programme ‘for giving priority to the preparation for a future above the short-lived pleasures of entertainment and nightlife’. De Klerk said the women in the group were also trained in the use of the femidom (the female condom), to help prevent the spread of HIV.
