Ramblers to disrupt two-horse race

RAMBLERS coach Woody Jacobs believes the Namibia Premier League title will go to either African Stars or Black Africa, but his side intends to put a spanner into the works.

Still smarting from Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Sport Klub Windhoek, Ramblers need a positive result against Black Africa at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tonight (20h00).
Third-placed Ramblers – on 22 points – trail log leaders Stars by six points and are five behind tonight’s opponents at the half-way stage of the season.
Jacobs conceded after the SKW defeat that his team were out of the running for league honours but that the team need to get back to winning ways in order to cement their position in the top half of the table.
That includes taking points off a BA side still in buoyant mood after an exhilarating 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Orlando Pirates last Friday.
“It’s definitely a two-horse race. It’s gonna be difficult to come back and make all those points on Stars and BA,” Jacobs said.
Jacobs, who bemoaned his team’s uncharacteristic disjointed display against SKW, said they needed to show character and put the defeat to behind them.
“We suffered a damaging defeat. We are obviously disappointed. We made mistakes and got punished for it,” he said
Victory for BA would place them top of the standings ahead of the weekend’s matches and will put pressure on Stars when they take on struggling Civics.
“If the guys come out with the right attitude then we can do it [against BA]. It’s gonna be tough. I think they have a better squad then ours. But that does not mean we are going to make up the numbers tomorrow (tonight). We are going there to compete,” Jacobs said.
