Namibians excel in CSA contestsBy: HELGE SCHUTZ
NAMIBIA’S Craig Williams, Brandon Viret and Louis Klazinga are among the leading cricketers in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Provincial three-day and one-day competitions, following their encounters against North West in Windhoek last weekend.
In the One-Day competition, Namibia finished fourth on the log following their stunning 83-run victory against North West on Sunday.
The result saw Namibia collecting five points to join third-placed Gauteng on 14 points, although they have a slightly inferior run aggregate.
The result was however quite costly for North West, who finished second on the log on 21 points and failed to reach the final by one point.
Free State, who won the Inland Pool with 22 points, will now meet the winners of the Coastal Pool, Border, in the 50-over final on Saturday, January 12.
Craig Williams, who top-scored for Namibia with 59 runs against North West, moved up to second position amongst the top batsmen in the One-Day competition.
Rassie van der Dussen of North West is the leading batsman with 349 runs at an average of 87,25, while Williams is second on 274 runs at an average of 68,50.
Namibia’s Brandon Viret is sixth amongst the leading bowlers with 10 wickets at an average of 14,80.
Garnett Kruger of North West and Darryl Brown of Border lead the way with 13 wickets each.
In the three-day Cricket South Africa competition, Namibia are still without a victory after six matches and are now lying third last on the log.
Namibia have drawn four and lost two matches for a total of 38,32 bonus points, which puts them just above Griqualand West and Kwazulu Natal on the 14-team log.
Eastern Province are leading the log on 66,80 points, followed by Boland on 65,20 and South Western Districts on 63,50 points.
Craig Williams is currently fourth amongst the leading batsmen with a total of 423 runs at an average of 47,00.
Pite van Biljon of Free State is the top batsman with 571 runs at an average of 71,37, while Rassie van der Dussen of North West is second with 554 runs at an average of 50,36.
Louis Klazinga is joint fourth amongst the top bowlers with 22 wickets at an average of 21,00.
Marcelo Piedt of SWD leads the log with 33 wickets at an average of 11,72, followed by Carl Raubenheimer of Boland with 24 wickets, and Shaun Liebisch of Easterns and Gino Vries of Free State who both have taken 23 wickets.
