NAMIBIAN opening bowlers Louis Klazinga and Christi Viljoen are back in the national side which will take on Free State and Northerns in the Cricket South Africa competition over the next two weeks.
Both bowlers were rested for Namibia’s last match against Easterns and their return will definitely strengthen Namibia’s bowling attack.
Klazinga took 10 wickets in his only match in the competition against Easterns, while Viljoen has been Namibia’s star bowler in the Intercontinental Cup competition.
He is the leading wicket taker in the competition with 28 wickets from four matches, while he had a best return of 7/61 against Canada.
Opening batsman and spin bowler Ian Opperman is also back in the team, while Namibian Under-19 all-rounder Shalako Groenewald who recently completed his school exams, has also been called up.
Namibian captain Sarel Burger will how- ever miss both three- day matches due to work commitments and will only be available for the one-day match against Northerns.
In his absence, Raymond van Schoor will take over the captaincy in the other matches.
Star batsman LP van der Westhuizen has been selected for both one day matches, but will miss both three day matches due to work commitments.
Namibia will take on Free State at the University grounds in Bloemfontein from tomorrow to Sunday, November 17, while their matches against Northerns will take place at the Centurion field from November 22 to 25.
Namibia are currently fourth on the log with nine points from two matches in the one-day competition, while they are third last on the log in the three-day compe- tition with 15,34 points from two matches. Namibia however have up to two games in hand on most of the other teams.
This weekend’s opponents, Free State, are currently second on the CSA One-Day log with 13 points from four matches, and fifth on the three-day log with 26,30 points from four matches.
Northerns are 11th on the CSA One-Day log with five points from three matches and ninth on the three-day log with 21,76 points from three matches.
