Junior chess nationals in Windhoek

By: STAFF REPORTER

THE National Junior Chess Championships will be held at the Dawid Bezuidenhout High School in Khomasdal on Saturday.

This weekend’s event, with a total prize package of N$8 250, will be an open event which serves as a qualifier for a team to represent the country at the World Youth Games in Slovenia in November.
Another change in the event this year is that in both the open event and close event the children will play in their age groups to determine age-group champions.
However, participants may register and participate in a higher age group.
“We therefore invite every child in Namibia to participate in this prestigious junior chess championship and would like to encourage those who don’t know how to play chess to give it a try. It’s lots of fun and a great sport,” said chess federation president Max Nitzborn.
Registration closes today at 16h00. To register, SMS your particulars to 0816152895 or enter online at namchess.blogspot.com or send e-mail to namibiachess@gmail.com.
