Top sides shine in Fistball Champs

By: STAFF REPORTER

SKW 1 and Cohen FC 3 fought off opposition from their rivals and last weekend’s windy weather to win all their games during the fourth round of the Bank Windhoek Fistball Championship to stay atop of the National A and National B leagues respectively.

The two Windhoek sides are the first to qualify for their leagues’ championship final to be held in September.
Defending champions SKW 1 had a comfortable day, having easily won their matches against SFC 1 and CFC 1 4:1 and 4:0 respectively. With these two wins, SKW 1 retained their spot at the top of the National A League and qualified for the championship final.
The second spot on the log remains firmly in the hands of SKW 2, while Cohen FC 1 remain in third spot, despite losing all their games on Saturday.
Winning a set against SKW 2 earned them a bonus point, which was enough to keep them ahead of SFC 1 on the log. SKW 2 and Cohen FC 1 will now meet in a playoff match to determine the team to participate in the championship final against SKW 1.
SFC also had a good day in the National B league. The Swakopmund team was placed fourth on the log at the start of the day. However, a 4:1 set win against DTS allowed them to take third place from their rivals and qualify for the playoff for the championship final.
They will meet SKW 3 who cemented their second place with a hard-fought 4:3 set win against DTS. With two losses from two games, DTS were left empty handed and ended the day in the fourth position on the log.
This means that they will not have a chance to play in the championship final, which is a disappointment for a team which has improved considerably since joining the Fistball League last year.
Cohen FC 3, who hold the first place in the B League, automatically qualify for the championship final. The team from Windhoek’s Olympia suburb kept a clean sheet once again by not losing a set in the three games they played over the weekend.
The playoffs and the championship final will be played on September 22 at the DTS Sport Grounds in Windhoek where fistball lovers can expect some explosive action.
At the end of the day’s games, the jury decided not to award the Danric Auto Player of the Day as they felt that there was no outstanding performance by a single player.
