Arrows and Chiefs in ‘Glamour Game’ battle

By: SHEEFENI NIKODEMUS

WHEN Kaizer Chiefs and Eleven Arrows clash at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tomorrow afternoon, they are expected to dish out a spectacle worthy of their ‘glamorous’ tags.

Despite this being an international friendly, Namibia’s action-starved football followers will be keenly anticipating fireworks from Bafana Bafana and club trio of winger Siphiwe Tshabalala, midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane and goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, after head coach Vladimir Vermezovic revealed to the club’s website (kaizerchiefs.com) that his World Cup stars would all join the squad travelling to Namibia. And Arrows will do well not to spoil the party, especially with the expectant home advantage.
According to the web report, the three players have been working hard at training since joining the camp following their extended break after the World Cup. Also joining the trip is midfielder, Gerald Sibeko who missed a couple of days early this week due to a stomach bug.
Eleven Arrows’ Sheya Andima is the only player, of the 24, who will miss out on the chance to impress against the South African giants. Their coach, Congo Hindjou, said earlier in the week that himself and his charges were upbeat about the ‘once in a lifetime pre-season match, having been in camp for over two weeks.
The intriguing match-up will be preceded by the north-eastern derby between Rundu Chiefs and Zambezi United with musical entertainment to be provided by kwaito crooner Gazza and other local acts.
Tickets to the game cost N$40 for the open stand and N$300 for VIP seats. The tickets are available countrywide at the following outlets: NFA Soccer House, NPL Office, OTB Sports, Universal Sounds in Windhoek, Eleven Arrows FC Offices, JJD Information Centre in Walvis Bay, and at OTB Sports in Swakopmund.
Co-sponsors of the match, Standard Bank Namibia and Hollard Namibia, have invited the public to Kaizer Chiefs’ open training session at the Sam Nujoma stadium this morning at 10h00.
Following the training session, the players will spend some time interacting with fans and signing autographs. Kaizer Chiefs merchandise and membership application forms will also be available.
The Glamour game kicks off at 15h00 (Namibian time).
