Triple defence fights on the cards
By: SHEEFENI NIKODEMUSTHE Nestor ‘Sunshine’ Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy will stage three WBO Africa title bouts at the Windhoek Country Club at the end of the month.
The academy announced in Windhoek, yesterday that it had signed Paulus Ambunda, Ali Nuumbembe and Martin Haikali to defend their WBO Africa titles.
The main bout of the WBO Africa Title International Boxing Bonanza features Ali ‘The Silent Assassin’ Nuumbembe defending his WBO African welterweight title against Boitsthepo Mandawe of South Africa.
Also in action will be WBO African lightweight champion Martin Haikali, who will square off against countryman Jatoorora Tjingaveta, with WBO African bantamweight champion Paulus Ambunda facing Tendani Munyai.
Promoter Nestor Tobias said the N$100 tickets for the fight will be available at the Windhoek Country Club and the Boxing Control Board.“We call upon all boxing fans and the public in general to come in big numbers to support the boxers.” Telecom Namibia continued its support towards boxing as it sponsored N$120 000 towards the hosting of the boxing bonanza. Telecom’s Oiva Angula, Senior Manager: Corporate Communications and Public Relations, said at the media conference that the company is creating opportunities to advance the careers of the boxers.
“The fact that we have agreed to sponsor this event underscores our continued commitment to the support of boxing in Namibia. We are extremely delighted to be associated with these pugilists and will do what we can to make them a brand and a force to be reckoned with in Namibia,” said Angula.
The bonanza will also see a number of undercard bouts take place, including an all-Namibian welterweight four-rounder between Mandume Pohamba and Edison Kanduwa, and a featherweight clash of Abmerk Shidjuu and South African Smangaliso Madonsela over six rounds. Peter Malakia will take on Richard Muninu in their scheduled six-round lightweight fight, while Jason Naule will be fighting Modecai Donga of Zimbabwe in another welterweight bout.
The event will begin at 19h00.
