Food For Thought
n ABUSE of government property by tenants who are living in government houses and flats is disturbing. The ministry of works is aware of this abuse but it seems that they don’t care. The tenants, in some instances, turn flats and houses into shebeens while other people are sleeping under bridges. That, in my view, is abuse of government property and it is totally unacceptable. Those people need to be called to order. Please ACC investigate.
Bouquets
And Brickbats
n CONGRATULATIONS to our government for approving civil servants’ home loans. The problem is with our banks, especially FNB, which declines the applications of customers. We are poor but we do qualify for housing loans. Please consider us. We need houses.

n PERMANENT Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, please hear us out and explain if the chief training officer and training committee own the training division or who gave them the right to decide as to who must get training, where and for how long? A staff member travelled to Ondangwa and Swakopmund at the end of 2012 for two weeks, claiming that she was training people on induction and HIV-AIDS which is always given within the first five months of employment by the public service. That, in my view, is only done for S&T? We are tired of this selfishnesses. Why can’t we attend training somewhere else other than our place of work? They are the only ones benefiting from the budget.
n WHEN is our government going to apply its time and mind to deal with the country’s priorities? The most urgent and pressing issues are poverty, unemployment, crime and corruption that goes along with greed. Enough is enough. President Hifikepunye Pohamba and the Prime Minister must take action before it’s too late.
A Kangaroo
n HMMM! Kangaroo meat? Do you know that we were eating Kangaroo meat and pet food at the school hostels in Damaraland before independence? Normally these products were not labelled to conceal identity.
n PLEASE Permanent Secretary, we need your help in the Caprivi Region. The shortlisting criteria for the school principals and inspectors posts is 20 years teaching experience. If that is the case we are appealing to the PS to make it 40 years managerial/working experience as a shortlisting criteria for the position of Caprivi Regional Director. The education in Caprivi Region is going down and we need a competent director.
n STOP complaining about the Ministry of Defence. You don’t know what is done internally and externally. Rather join the force and see what we do instead of making false allegations about the ministry.
– Proud soldier
n PLEASE explain PS. Is it possible for an ordinary teacher to be promoted to the position of principal, who have never been an HOD in his life? We have such a person who was promoted to the position of principal in Caprivi Region. Please investigate.
– Concerned Caprivian
n TO divide Hardap Region is a good idea I think, because the region is too big and there is no progress being made in terms of development.
n IT seems that Swapo is only for the benefit of war veterans. If it is not, why is it only focusing more and more on them? We are now getting tired. Our mahangu fields were destroyed as the war was all over the country but the government seems to have forgotten it. That is why they only consider war veterans and their children.
n THE management of Zambezi fishing vessel in Walvis Bay, you are the true sons and daughters of this Land of the Brave. Keep up your caring treatment towards your crew and staff members. You lead by example. I salute you.
n POLYTECHNIC of Namibia, do you know what the meaning of public holiday is? Why do you make students to write a test on Cassinga Day. Don’t you have respect for the laws of Namibia?
n I THANK the Labour Inspectors who are doing their part on labour issues. To those who are not doing their job, please pull up your socks or leave us alone.
n THE manager of Okahao U-Save, please tell staff members to respect customers.

President Hifikepnye Pohamba
n PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba, Clemens Kashuupulwa’s denial about what he said on the proposed new region makes the public lose faith in him as a governor who reports to you. He said it clearly in the media but now he is lying to the public that he didn’t say it. Did he not take an oath when he was sworn in? Discipline him or transfer him. That would emphasise your leadership. The fact remains that he has killed Ondangwa with his tribalistic attitude.
Sebastian Ndeitunga
n THE two police chiefs, General Sebastian Ndeitunga and Chief Abraham Kanime must tender their resignations because they have failed to turn their forces into disciplined and respected units. Their forces are in the process of turning the country into a police state and the police general has turned Namibia into a fortress under police siege with their permanent military/colonial style roadblocks or checkpoints. A poor legacy, the general has created.
n MY appeal to the Attorney General, as a legal expert, is to tell the electorate whether it is legal and authorised for civilians (Men and Women Network) to display police emblems on their clothing if they are not part of the force and if anyone is allowed to display a police emblem or badge on his clothes or a car?
n THE Khomas Directorate of Education needs manpower. What is the purpose of the misconduct section? Is it not supposed to be part of HR? We need to have a meeting to discuss the existence of this section as they are more relaxed and only read newspapers without doing anything. We need action.
n DEAR editor, the group of people calling themselves ‘struggle kids’ irritates me very much. They are pressing the government to give them jobs and I want to know the type of jobs they qualify for. They are not special at all, they even don’t want to be bailed out that is a clear testimony that they are unruly. Prison is home to people like them. Let them be there until they are mature enough to think wisely. Lastly, they are not kids as they claim to be. They are much older than most of us. No, no, the constitution needs to be amended so they can be whipped.
David Namwandi
n AS long as our self proclaimed despot David Namwandi remains at the helm of the Ministry of Education, no change will take place except at IUM.
n NANTU should look at how cluster centre principals are being used by the Ministry of Education for nothing. CCPs are doing a lot of administration work for schools in the cluster e.g. approving of leave, signing schedules, visiting schools, co-ordinating and promoting team work in the entire cluster. Remunerate them.
n IT IS unfortunate to state that people should not cry because police officers killing the civilians (sms of 30 April), as many people resist arrest. It seems the author is a stranger in this country as he/she had not heard of many cases of Police abuses and shootings of civilians who never resisted arrest. Nobody has the right to take anybody’s life as human beings are God’s creatures and not the property of the state.
n BONIFACE Mutumba and your clique, being scholars (academics), you must promote unity in this country regardless of your good positions. Make constructive contributions to Delimitation Commission. Down with sectionalist ideas in our republic.
n MAY the authorities (the state) start to investigate Boniface Mutumba and his clique to explain the meaning of ‘cutting our land and cause instability’. We have only one state land. I don’t support exiled Muyongo’s ideologies. Viva Delimitation Commission!
n MINISTER Albert Kawana, I stand by your side for trying to explain to some Caprivians with secessionist minds.
We want water
n WE want water as we are close to Vision 2030. The water from the river is not clean. When are we going to be part of development? They don’t assist the councillor on infrastructure in rural areas.
n DEAR Jacqueline W Asheeke, I’ve read your article ‘Beware of Crack’ in the Namibian of Tuesday 30 April. Indeed, a well researched piece of work. Excellent! Please SMS me your cell no, I’m a member of an association where your knowledge can be used to prevent addiction in our youth. Regards G J Jansen 0816115317.
Suggestion Box
n PLEASE NBC can you move ‘Generations’ from 16h30 to 17h30. I believe the soapy is meant to entertain adults and at that time most adults are still at work.
n I AM not sure if testing of narcotic drugs is procedurally done by NamPol but I seriously think if it is not then it should become procedural. The baseline test should be set for suspects of murder, rape and all other serious crimes. When I read the article of Jacky Asheeke’s in The Namibian of Tuesday I started to think more about it.
n MINISTER Bernard Esau, please say no to phosphate mining. Keep Namibia clean.
– Waltraut
In And From
The Regions
n WE thank the Otavi Expo organisers who also tried to clean the town. The Expo is now over. The dirty roads which can’t be levelled with big stones on our streets is ignored by the town council, even after the Founding President pleaded with the Mayor and CEO to keep the town clean. The expo organisers are the sons of Otavi and have showed their concern and interest of their town. We hope the town council learned a lesson.
– SPYL member
n HELAO Nafidi Mayor, please do something about public toilets at Oshikango. The toilets are very few and can’t meet the demand. The town has grown with a border post and many people are visiting and crossing the border.
n CORRECTION on the Diploma of Nursing and Midwifery Science: It is stated clearly that criteria is 20 to 30 years and not points. We must have clear knowledge of what we are writing or saying instead of calling the minister ignorant.
Labour
n THE CEO of Labour Investment Holdings., I have read your points in The Namibian of 19 April. You are touching on important issues but do you know of Namibian fishermen who are working 12, 24 and 18 hours at sea? Their salaries are very low and cannot be compared to the salaries of their counterparts in South Africa. They are only entitled to two days leave per month, like the workers that are working for nine hours on shore. Why is it like that? Please answer.
n BEZERS Management, think of the people who are working in your company. Don’t only think of your work. People are not happy with the way you are treating them and our committee is not working. We want the union to come and listen to our problems.
Education
n MINISTER of Education, you got it wrong this time, very wrong. Reintroduce Bible Study in schools without delay, because students will be familiar to the ten commandments. They will obey them and put them into practice. During apartheid era there were Bible Study in schools and few pregnancy cases, few passion killings and criminal activities occurred. Remember the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Proverbs 1:7, but fools despise wisdom and understanding. Proverbs 3:11. My son do not despise the teaching of the Lord. Namibia, wake up!
n MINISTER of Education, you have policies in place except an effective policy on the usage of cell-phones during classes by both teachers and learners. That, I think, is directly contributing to poor performance in schools..
n MINISTER David Namwandi, please send a team to the Otjozondjupa Regional Education Office. We struggle to get our bonuses and we are worried that there is a scam in our ministry. Principals only make promises but don’t follow up on them. -Concerned teacher
