Bouquets And Brickbats
*THANKS to Intercape for coming to the far north. We have been waiting for this.
*WE still have leaders, true leaders in Namibia! Congratulations Kaptein John McNab for denouncing the new deeds legislation without mincing words! The proposed bill and its unnecessary additional costs restricts ownership of land and will seriously undermine property rights of the people of Rehoboth.
*DEMANDING anything without political back-up means you are likely to receive ill-treatment. Please help the ‘struggle children’ even if they become unruly at times. Their demand is genuine.
*NATIONAL Youth Service, please take away application forms and youth recruitment processes from constituency offices as it is based, politicised, corrupt and monopolised. Increase the number of applicants and let the councillors not do the selection to cater for all deserving and qualified youths.
*THE teachers at Flamingo Primary School at Walvis Bay are very rude to the learners. Minister David Namwandi should please go and investigate. The learners are even afraid to ask if they don’t know something.
*INTERPACK is a Namibian Company owned by a South African. We work there for many years without any benefits. We want labour inspectors to come and investigate the conditions under which we are working.
*WHAT a joke! New vehicles pay ‘emissions tax’ but what about the municipal busses and lorries giving off huge fumes of black unhealthy smoke in the city. Another offender is TransNamib. Their diesel locomotives give off black smoke which can be seen kilometres away. Are government and municipal institutions exempt from the responsibility of keeping the atmosphere and environment clean and healthy? How about servicing your vehicles for a change?
*ONE can only applaud the six Pakistanis who stood up against the armed robbery!
*WHY is it that people at Lewcor are doing the same work but they are on different salaries scales and they have different benefits? If you damage a machine by accident you have to pay for it. Can the Minister of Labour please look into this?
*Minister of Regional Local Government Housing and Rural Development please come to Keetmashoop and see the poor quality Build Together houses that are being built for N$40 000. This is totally unacceptable.
*WHY does everybody make such noise about Air Namibia’s bailout? Because we know that they are only getting funds to mess up again, this is because some of the big guns have indirect interests.
*THE Ministry of Finance budget notes in Oshiwambo were distributed in one of the daily newspapers on Monday this week. Should we expect same for all the other national languages?
*THE opposition parties were coerced by the majority party at the time when they blindly adopted our constitution and are now crying foul about domination of one tribe. I wish they would have listened to the then President of FCN, who proposed a federal system to balance power and avoid a now seemingly one party unitary state in Namibia.
*I DO not understand. I know some people who call themselves ‘struggle children’ from the Omusati Region whose parents were never in exile or war veterans.
*CAN sport development be considered in Opuwo? There are quality players who need to join premier league teams. Make a turn and come watch them when there is a soccer tournament at Opuwo.
*MINISTER Alpheus Naruseb, you said on television that all Namibians should be treated the same. Well, tell us why can’t all Namibians register for free land? Why do you only give communal farmers, war veterans and ministers free land?
*WHAT is happening in this country? News of a gay list going around, brutality of women and now “man sleeps with a dog”. No wonder there is no rain in this country! We need to repent!
*THE man arrested for the second time for having sex with a dog. He is a risk for people outside and also for the inmates. This man should be locked up in a separate cell.
*THE Pakistani business people who overpowered the alleged robber should be arrested. After they tied the suspect they are expected by law to call the police not beat a tied-up defenceless person until he died. That is what we call taking the law into your own hands.
*CITY of Windhoek, you are wasting our precious water. The sprinklers at the garden on the way to Safari Hotel spray onto the road and pavements. What a waste! That garden was watered on Monday and again yesterday. I have let two of my patches of lawn die in an effort to save water. Lead by example please!
*NO work, no vote!
Suggestion Box
*SOME parastatals must be shut down and incorporated into relevant ministries. Air Namibia and TransNamib should go directly under Ministry of Transport, NamPower to the Ministry of Energy, NamWater to the Ministry of Agriculture and so on. Just an innocent suggestion.
Regrading
*I WONDER if the regrading of teachers’ salaries makes sense. The gap between HOD’s, principals and teachers shows that certain groups are benefiting at the expense of the others. I totally disagree with it. Therefore, I advise the government to review this before implementation. I also request the media to publish the new notches of HODs and principals for public scrutiny. The government did publish the notches of teachers and other civil servants. Why are they selective? The public must debate this issue.
*TO MY fellow teacher calling for us to object the regrading system: I have a three year teaching diploma and according to the new salary grading system my salary goes up by approximately 44 percent. We demanded 36 percent. So what more are you asking for? If you want a head of department or principal post, apply and become one. I salute the Pohamba administration for a great job.
*DEAR fellow Africans, when are going to wake up? The Namibian government has to get a consultant from UK to do the regrading. Does it mean there is no Namibian or even African company to do it? Now look at the mess the regrading has brought. Many civil servants in midlevel management have their salaries cut. In reality these are the people who work even more than directors. The Prime Minister should look into the issue, otherwise the government will lose experienced people.
*THE government regrading system is not fair at all, the salary gap between a control officer and chief control officer is too big. How can that be and what work does the chief do that the control officer cannot do. Let us not implement a system that we do not understand because this will just bring too much confusion in the future. Other positions such as that of teachers, clerks, prosecutors are also negatively affected for example the salary gap of a teacher to that of a HOD. Cutting of salaries is an insult to employees. Remember that we are in Namibia and not in Britain. After 23 years we do not have our own qualified consultants.
*I WOULD like to air my views on the regrading of public servants. Honestly, a school’s administration can never exist without a secretary. They type tasks, tests and exams. They compile statistics, learners reports and schedules. They duplicate, staple and pack question papers and yet they keep the filling system both in hard and soft copies. In other words, secretaries are hearts of schools and thy deserve to be awarded for the work they are doing.
Response to Previous SMSes
*TO our beloved, hardworking principal and teacher at Donatus Secondary School, we read with disgrace the SMS of the nameless, jealous, misguided person last Friday. We are proud of you, our good results and our disciplined school. Keep it up sir
*MILLIONAIRE pastors, poor followers! Stringent regulations needed to stop the exploitation of the poor.
