SMSes for Friday 08 March 2013

SMS Of The Day *UNITED Africa Group is still persuing the legal battle against Epupa, while they are failing to return the funds they did not distribute to the pensioners for November / December 2010. Where is the money which the company failed to pay out. Anti-Corruption Commission should investigate.

Food For Thought
*MINISTER of Trade and Industry, help your citizens who want to import cars from the United Kingdom by allowing them to at least import cars that are 10 years old. They are forced to import cars through Botswana. To own a car is a necessity for all of us. Prices of cars are skyrocketing in Namibia.

Bouquets and Brickbats

*WHY is Social Security increasing other benefits but never increases workman’s compensation. Prices of goods increase everyday and all people are affected. Please, take a look at this issue.

*WATCH out for this text message. Congratulations! Your number won N$2,5 million in Mobile Network Promo. Your Ref. No is TBL16K. To claim prize, Call John Harry on Tel:0813508561. T&C apply. It’s a scam.

*THE Minister of Home Affairs, Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana should consider the option of renewing passports for five years, as was done in the past, and extending the validity of a new passport to 10 years. Most of us have to apply for a new passport even if you still have some pages in your expired passport.

*COUNCILLOR of the Shimutwikeni Ongenga constituency must realise that his constituency is very different from other constituencies because of a lack of development. Water is the main problem at Cengwena village, as we have not received rain so far. Please help.

*WELL done to Oukwanyama Traditional Authority for the event that you organised to remember  Mandume Ndemufayo. Please keep on organising it annually.

*I HAVE often asked myself why we need a Defence Force? Are they protecting us against Angola, Botswana, South Africa or perhaps China, America or Russia? It does not make sense. The only reason I could think of is the government is protecting itself from the citizens if they get fed up with the way they are governed. If I am wrong correct me. I would rather see our soldiers performing social duties.

*I SUPPORT the argument to deploy the members of the Namibian Defence Force to patrol the river beds in and around Windhoek. Since there are soldiers on duty everyday and only need to be extended to other areas, it would be easy. We want to live in peace but criminals are disturbing peace.

*WINDHOEK has become unbearable because people cannot afford houses anymore. Imagine, no land for the poor but flats are all over the city. No jobs. Life is very expensive these days. People are dying and are exhausted spiritually.

*Why is the print media silent on the humiliation and degrading treatment endured by all professionals in the public service as a result of the regrading fiasco? Is the media only interested in us when we make blunders?

*THE Namibian newspaper should visit the Polytechnic of Namibia. The mathematics class is overcrowded. We don’t understand what the lecturer says. We pay a lot of money but at the end we get nothing. They will probably do something if a story is carried in the newspaper.

*THE manner in which the regrading of salaries is done at NDF is not acceptable at all. Something should be done to the three lower ranks namely Private, Lance Corporal and Corporal. Their salaries should be upgraded.

*Moola mobile must do the draw in a professional way that all of us can trust. How can someone send 39 SMSes and the one who only send 22 is the winner? Tel us if you are doing it for family en friends.

*I DID not know our government is a profit making organisation. NamPol charges N$40 for a two-sided, one page police report. It costs two dollars at other photocopy businesses. If you don’t pay, you don’t get the copy and only they can make copies from those documents. This is daylight robbery.

*WITHOUT taking anything away from the level of skills and hard work that goes into the sport, l’m not supprised that the only sport Namibia excels in, is boxing. With our men being so violent how can we not expect them to be good at beating up people?

*OUR Goverment must take a look at the salaries earned by people working for Chinese businesses. The workers get paid N$350 per month, while the business is making N$10 000 per day. The people are working for the whole month without getting a single day off. Our salary must at least be N$800  per month to enable us to buy food, pay taxi fare and other needs.

*STANDARD Bank branch at Walvis Bay, your customer service is not up to standard. One has to wait for a long time before service. Employ more people so you can render service efficiently. Cellphone banking also needs to be upgraded because it is too slow. Walvis Bay is a big town and we need to have two branches in town.

*SOUTH Africans want to justify the fact that they feed on donkey and buffalo by saying Namibians feed on seals. Ag shame tog, our beef is genuine, free from any genetic modification, buffalo or donkey. EU is satisfied with our standard of slaughtering, packaging and proccesing of beef. Yes, there are some of us who eat donkey but we are not managed by the Meat Board. We are doing it ourselves.

Suggestion Box
*CAN the Anti Corruption Commission investigate the equal allocation of bursaries in the country. Rumours are making the rounds that out of 50 students studying abroad 40 are of the same tribe. Please investigate.

*FRUSTRATED prosecutors should just resign if they cannot accept the pay cut. For years, they were earning a good salary, way above the teachers who are doing a more important job. What goes around comes around. Viva Office Of The Prime Minister!

*NHE is self sustaining purely because they are operating in a sector where demand totally outstrips supply. Most of our civil servants cannot even afford the NHE houses. NHE should take it’s management team and spend a day at Air Namibia where the market is fully efficient.

Health

*HEALTH Ministry, the nurses and cleaners are being treated unfairly at Oshakati State Hospital. Management want us to be off on Sundays. They don’t care about the welfare of the patients and are only interested in overtime money. Please, we need positive response on this issue.

*MINISTER of Health and Social Services, why are hospital fees different? We pay N$8 during normal working hours. We pay N$20 after hours and during weekends. Why? Is State Hospital not supposed to be serving patients for 24 hours or does the arrangement only apply at Grootfontein State Hospital?

Education

*TO the persons who say people complain about Eros Primary School should not try to make the school their own. It is a government school. Why are they worried about people who are complaining? Are they part of the people who are benefitting from the payments we make?

*WE are being labelled as liars and badmouthing the school when we speak out against problems we are experiencing. Eros Primary School is demanding that we pay school fees. If you can’t pay your child is turned away. It happened to me.

*I AM a teacher in Caprivi Region since on January 25 2010. To my surprise there is no GIPF deduction on my salary. I went several times to our offices but to no avail. I fear for my children. If I die today there is no pension to cover them. What trust can I have with these people working in our offices?

*Congratulations to St Georges who banned chips and soda drinks from their tuck shop. It is time for other schools to follow their example.

Labour
*WHY does the average worker at Nampost get a bonus of N$4 000 and the management get more than N$200 000 each, Yet, they say there is no money. Can ACC come and investigate this matter.

Responses to Previous SMSes
*TO the writer of yesterday’s ‘SMS of the Day’: You argue that the bailout for Air Namibia could have been used to create jobs. That is exactly what it is being done. Without Air Namibia, tens of thousands of jobs in tourism would be lost. Surely that is not difficult to understand.

*TO the writer of a suggestion that Air Namibia be made a ‘local’ airline. Please read the statistics! Most of our overseas tourists are from German-speaking Europe and their daily spend is much higher than that of regional visitors. Air Namibia brings much more revenue to Namibia than what Government spends to support it.

SMS
*City Police, you have now started with community policing and Nampol has been busy with theirs. Why can’t you just work with Nampol? You are confusing us. Each one is busy with their own thing. Who do we follow and listen to?

Response

Community policing in both instances have the same objective and are not in conflict with one another. As law enforcement our simple objective is to mobilise the community to stand up against crime. The different approaches are simply a way of addressing some complex issues with a variety or strategies and responses focusing on different areas of problems in our communities.
Thus, communities should not be alarmed by the two approaches, Think of us (City Police & Nampol) as children of the same father with the same objective and commitment to see our streets rid of crime.
To achieve this, we both need you to join in and support Community Policing efforts. Please remember crime and criminal behavior evolves and you need various ways to address it.

SMS
*City Police, we at Genesis Street don’t sleep and our children don’t get enough sleep because of noise pollution. What is the closing time of shebeens in Genesis Street, Katutura?

Response
Liquor outlets have different opening and closing hours depending on the license as dictated by the Liquar Act and Municipal By-Laws. The following hours apply to the City of Windhoek.
Closing hour’s Weekdays (Mondays to Thursdays including Sunday) 22h00 weekends 24h00 except for outlets with special licenses that permit closure at 02h00 or 04h00 in the morning.
Broadcasting of music is strictly till 22h00 weekdays and 24h00 weekends

SMS
*City Police, We want to know whether the operational hours of Herero Mall have been changed or what is going on? We cannot sleep anymore! The music is very loud and plays until late, as late as 22h00 on weekdays and 02h00 during weekends. We were informed that the operational time of this place is or was 07h00 to 19h00! Please help us, we need to rest and we have school kids who need to study and sleep peacefully without this noise.

RESPONSE
Trading hours are determined by the nature of the license that the outlet holds. However, for Herero Mall the closing hours where determined to be 07h00 - 19h00.
Shebeen owners and managers are reminded that in cases where numerous complaints are recorded against a outlet it can negatively influence future operations of that outlet.

SMS
*Does city police have a system where car owners can log in to check if they have traffic tickets? Some drivers are not informed of their traffic fines.”

Response

City Police’s area of jurisdiction is within the boundaries of Windhoek and to this end, we are currently investigating methods that will allow for the increase of pay points as well as electronic (online) methods of fine enquiry and payment.

In And From the Regions
*THE Otjozondjupa Education Region should remove the principal of the Donatus Secondary School like it was done with the principal of Okakarara school. Donatus Secondary was one of the best in our region, but now it is one of the worst performing schools. Parents must unite and petition the education directorate.
