Food for Thought
*IT is very strange that Angolan fuel is good enough for Air Namibia planes but not good for Namibian cars. Someone please explain this hypocrisy.
*CAN anyone give me an answer to this question, please? What are the dangers of the majority choosing that which is wrong? I think we are too quick to criticise leaders when things go wrong but we should not give followers a free pass. They too need to reap the fruits of their labours.
*CAN someone please explain what ‘underpaid’ means and whether there is a universal yardstick to determine one’s salary? The US president, dubbed the most powerful man both in military and politics, earns far less than executives in the best economies across the globe. Why don’t you go to the private sector for better pay and leave politics?
*IT is shocking to see elderly people suffering like the grandpa in Oniipa. Isn’t there an old age home for people like him? I think it will be good to register him for the pension grant, even against his will. After all, it is for a good cause.
*ESTABLISHING a food bank, as suggested by the Prime Minister, should only be a temporary measure to allow people to be able to do other activities that will move them out of extreme poverty. Teach people how to fish for themselves to avoid creating a dependency syndrome.
*PRINCIPALS of struggling schools become CEOs and directors. It’s no surprise that these institutions and ministries don’t perform.
Bouquets and Brickbats
*I SALUTE you Governor Bernadus Swartbooi for developing the Karas Region, keep it up!
*WHY are Chinese people getting work permits but Zimbabweans are rejected and deported? The story is money! How can you issue a work visa to a Chinese bricklayer while Namibia has a lot of them?
*ADVICE to President Obama from Mali: If you find that half of your country has been taken over by armed religious nuts, there’s only one thing to do – call in the French foreign legion!
*I ESCORTED an elderly lady to an out-patients consulting room at Katutura Hospital on January 14 and was shocked that there was no enclosed area or at least a curtain. The doctor lifted the lady’s top and exposed her breasts to myself and other staff which included a male nurse. I find this practice very degrading and unacceptable!
*THEO Namases, did Air Namibia go to each of the shareholders and explain the implications that the pilots’ strike might have on the airline’s finances or did you just allow it to happen? It is sometimes the airline management’s poor decision making strategies that cause it to have to be bailed out yearly. The pilots’ strike should have been prevented by all means.
*MINISTRY of Lands and Resettlement, after purchasing farms, they are left without proper supervision for too long. During this time these farms are ransacked, plundered and vandalised. When allocated a unit, the beneficiaries have to struggle to rebuild the infrastructure which was stolen or destroyed. Minister, please look into this matter.
*DON’T tell me where the new NWR board members work. Tell me what they have achieved or contributed to the national good, and tell me who nominated and seconded them.
*MINISTER of Education, please investigate the Concordia High School hostel. This hostel is very, very old and needs renovation. There are no doors to the rooms and all the windows are broken. Please do something.
*WHEN you try to book online at NWR, you get redirected to a private booking company. Does anyone know who owns this company and how they got the contract?
*PLEASE fellow Namibians, the language spoken is called Damara/Nama, Nama/Damara or Khoe-Khoe Gowab (pronounced kwe kwe kowab). I often hear “do you speak Damara?” The people are called Damara or Nama. It can be irritating and disrespectful, especially for me as a Nama person. People who are not Damara or Nama will not understand the sensitivity of the matter.
*AIR Namibia is paying consultants high fees for doing what a competent management cadre and board should be doing. No wonder they can’t pay their fuel bills – they have no idea how to budget or to prioritise.
Suggestion Box
*AIR Namibia: Do away with the rebate benefit your staff have. Imagine your staff and the number of rebates per person. Why give things out for free (almost) if you don’t have money? No more flying on rebate. Fly and pay, 100 percent.
Education
*WHEN you are a degree holder in Namibia, you risk your chances of getting a job. How can someone with a masters degree go for a year of not even going for one interview, yet he applies every two days? It pains me a lot, every time I take my CV to some offices, I find staff studying to get a diploma, while I have both a diploma and a degree, but I’m unemployed. What is going on in this country? Only those with CEOs as relatives can get jobs easily.
*ABRAHAM Iyambo, can your ministry investigate the placement of pupils in the new Rukonga Vision School in the Kavango Region? None of the Grade 11 learners from the western schools in the Kavango Region have been accepted.
*THE Minister of Education, NSFAF and the executive director of NIMT, tell us when are you going to give us our refunds or are you going to keep it for yourself?
*MINISTRY of Education, I am 16 years old, wrote Grade 10 exams last year and failed with 21 points at Hage Geingob High. The problem is, we went back to school and begged them to allow us to repeat as we are very young and can’t even get a job to sustain our needs, but they refused. This will result in a high rate of unemployment, as well as street kids. We can’t stay at home doing nothing, we want to go back to school and study so we help our parents in the future.
*PLEASE Abraham Iyambo, bring order to government schools so they can start teaching on the first day after the holidays. Now they are busy registering new pupils while old ones are just wandering around for a whole week. Please register new pupils a week before schools commence.
Service Please
*WOERMANN Brock Goreangab has no plastic bags. I had to take my food without a bag on January 15 at 10h26. Can the manager explain?
*BANK management of Bank Windhoek, Etango Complex. I opened a bank account on December 20 2012, but until today, I haven’t received my card and my pin. That’s a joke.
*CITY of Windhoek, we want allocation results for the offer to purchase unimproved and vacant properties, we did last year September. On the forms, you indicated that the allocation results will be out by the end of October 2012 and up to now we have not heard anything. What is the hold up? Nepotism, favouritism and self enrichment, as usual? We want land to build houses please!
*POLYTECH advertised that online registration starts January 14. I went online to register, only to be told by the system that the facilities aren’t available. Poly get your act together, fix the kiosk so we can start registering as advertised in the newspaper.
*BANK Windhoek Walvis Bay branch, where is my money that the ATM declined to issue? I reported it immediately but I’ve already been waiting for five days for your reply. Poor service at enquiries. Please train them.
*SECOND day with no water in the NBC Radio building!
*CAN someone help me? Last October I was driving from Otjiwarongo to Windhoek, and along the way I was caught by a speed camera. I was driving a light truck and its GVM does not exceed 9000kg, and I know for that matter that on the freeway my speed limit is 120km/h. The argument erupted between us because the cop issued me a fine worth N$1 750 while driving 101km/h. Please correct me, or advise me on the speed limits on goods vehicles. What I know is that the speed limit for cars and goods vehicles not exceeding 9000kg GVM on outside urban roads/gravel roads is 100km/h, while on tarred roads it is 120km/h. Goods vehicles exceeding 9000kg GVM may only drive 60km/h on urban roads and outside urban roads, it is 80km/h . I’ve paid the fine already, is there a way of getting my money back?
*MTC, do you know that 99 percent of the Namibian population have cellphones? You need to strengthen your signal all over the country. We just waste our money because of poor network on farms and in villages. Please do something, I hope you will not lose anything, if you put antennas everywhere in Namibia.
*I FULLY agree with the pathetic customer services at MTC Maerua Mall! I went there five times after applying for an upgrade in December. No one ever came back to me, even though they promised. Upon inquiry I was told, on numerous occasions, that either; ‘the phone has been discontinued’, ‘we are still busy processing your request’ or ‘we will get back to you via SMS’. This is absurd! MTC is abusing us since they don’t have a competitor. One day, MTC will lose the majority of its customers. I am sincerely hoping that day comes soon.
In and From the Regions
*LüDERITZ Town Council, we need erven to build houses, please follow the example of Keetmanshoop Municipality.
*PLEASE do something about our electricity in Otjiwarongo. If you buy N$100, you get 44 units. What is that? Really, they are killing us. Government must do something please.
