SMSes for Thursday 10 January 2013

SMS Of The Day *NATIONAL leaders should lead by example, serve and care. Not exploit, abuse and should not be idolised and expect reward.

Food for Thought
*TRIBALISM should not be considered based on the number of languages a person speaks but rather on the common understanding that we are all Namibians regardless of what language or how many languages one speaks. So the only solution is for every Namibian to say no to tribalism!

*IF we want a society where moral values are upheld, let’s go back to our drawing boards; the homes where children are growing. Let us discipline them instead of spoiling them. Let us take them to church, let us make them understand the true meaning of life, let us make them understand that in life there is a no. That in life you lose and win. Otherwise rape, murder, corruption, and all sorts of social evils will prevail and not even a 20 year minimum jail term will prevent these acts from happening in the first place. Please parents, I beg!
– From a concerned young man.

*WE blame teachers and parents when school results get bad, it is true teachers and parents play a great role in a child’s education from the start. My question is how many parents can actually understand what the child is taught at school? I am sure the majority of them, especially in rural areas don’t. They won’t be able to solve a simple question from social studies. The best way would be to identify from which environment each child comes from so that we know where we need to help more.

*Violence, death for economic reasons, rape, hunger, corruption, greed and many more... Are these not reason enough, Prime Minister Hage Geingob, to consult widely and act swiftly? Namibia does not lack intellectual capacity but lacks co-ordinated leadership.

Bouquets and Brickbats
*PETRUS Damaseb, shame on you for your twisted opinion on the ridiculous ‘Proposed increased of 31 percent salaries’ for the already overpaid political office bearers. Most are not working hard enough to earn N$550 per month, like other senior citizens. And you are probably getting up to N$7 500 per day! It’s a national disgrace! Your sense of fair judgement is now suspect! Please change for the sake of all poor Namibians. All 2,1 million of us!

*NAMIBIA Premier League’s break for festive season was a wrong move. Because of the African Cup of Nations clubs have the challenge, in January, of pulling fans to league games. They should have shifted some games to the coast, Rundu, Oshakati... Eish! Football is a business that can make money. Word wakker manne!

*HOW on earth can TransNamib award a tender to D&M Rail if they can do the job? In which newspaper was the tender advertised? When did TransNamib’s tender committee award this tender? If President Hifikepunye Pohamba cannot see what the shareholding ministry and the board of TransNamib are doing to bring this company down then I rest my case!

*NAMIBIANS should stop abusing alcohol during the festive season, instead spend that money on their children’s education.

*LAST year I bought The Namibian everyday just to read the SMSes. Believe me, I became very negative towards my nation! Can’t the paper look into publishing positive thoughts for the nation? Let’s be positive this year! Together we can!

*RICHARD Kamwi, there was a serious accident in Otavi on Sunday, January 6 and once again an ambulance had to come from Otjiwarongo. If it was not for the response from the NDF, it could have been much worse. We want to know why you gave the ambulance back to Otjiwarongo?

*THEO Namases, some friendly advice: Please take off your sunglasses when the reporters take pictures. It’s unprofessional to appear with sunglasses in the newspaper.

*CONGRATS to the City Police for controlling noise over the weekend at a certain erf in Crater Street, Dorado Park, Extension 1. In future they should consider fining the offenders as this goes on for two consecutive days. That way people will learn.

*THE complaints and vile comments the public aims at civil servants are always put in such a way that you’d think employees in the private sector operate like clockwork. Not at FNB Homeloans in Windhoek. I applied for a re-advance before Christmas and what would apparently have taken five working days was pending because the manager who had to do the approval went on leave! Similar to government? She gets back and makes up new procedures to delay my application. Compare to government? 100 percent.

*CAN’T One Africa Television get some other interesting programmes to air? We are tired of this BBC World news thing starting from 00h00 to 13h00. It is just a repetition and it is boring! It will be better if they show it for an hour or two and then move to other programmes like NBC.

*GROOT Aub article on Tuesday: Great feature story, well done! To the settlement residents: take your councillor Frederick Arie to task! Use official channels, don’t just complain in the streets. If you are not satisfied and know of illegal activities – get rid of him!

Service Please
*FNB in Eenhana can only afford one ATM but people regard this bank as one of the biggest and largest. Please install two or more cash machines, we are suffering.

*HAGE Geingob please, we poor people want land, we want to be resettled.

*MTC please, we need emergency rescue at Okongo. The network is always off during morning hours. Please, we need change in the new year!

Politics

*PLEASE Electoral Commission, educate our Namibians about presidential and  parliamentary elections and why one needs to vote. The role of Members of Parliament and why it is important to elect well. It is about time that you conduct electoral and political awareness campaigns before elections. Teach us more about elections in detail please.

Labour
*SALARY increments of eight percent were back dated from April. Why is it that they want to pay the backpay for bonus, housing and transport allowances for only two months? Why can’t it also be backdated from April since it is attached to the salary? What does our government think of us? Is it really fair? Namibians wake up!

*IN which newspaper or website are SME bank vacancies advertised? It seems we graduates will continue to suffer at the hands of those who have already been employed by other banks. It is very frustrating to be a graduate in Namibia.

*BACKPAY tax was too much. Forty-one percent in my case. Ministry of Finance must recalculate.

*GOVERNMENT of Namibia, there is nothing wrong with your recruitment, but the problem is your people who are recruiting. They call many people to come for interviews, even when they only needed a few. What is the use? If one post ends up with 10 people shortlisted? I request the government of Namibia to change the system this year. Please always send members of the Anti Corruption Commission to  the interview because those coming from poor families don’t get jobs in this country.

Education
*MATRICULANTS beware of bogus colleges.

*CAN the Minister of Education please inform us about semi private primary schools. Will their school fees also be cut? Schools like Flamingo Primary in Walvis Bay? The teachers are paid by government, meaning it is a government school. We are in the dark and eager to know.
– Concerned parent, Walvis Bay

*ZERO school fees, zero quality education in public schools. Not all of us can afford private schools. The irony is that law makers’ children can afford to go to private school, widening the gap between rich and poor. Namibians should wake up and smell the coffee. This is suicide!

*HELLO Namibians! When are we going to understand the situation? The government has tried by giving Grades 0 to 7 free education but some are still complaining. We  have to consider the factors, firstly we have a developing economy, how is it possible to get everything for free? I am a child but never get everything I want from my  parents and this does not mean they hate me. They probably just cannot afford it. Let us show sense when we are complaining!

*MINISTRY of Education and NSFAF, some of us at the Polytechnic of Namibia didn’t get our results due to outstanding fees. Please pay up, registration starts next week.

*FREE education for Grades 0 to 7 in Namibia at last! I applaud this move with my whole heart. But, may I know whether this arrangement affects private schools too? Could someone tell me, please.

Suggestion Box

*TAFEL Lager, we want to watch the two friendly games: Brave Warriors against Morocco and Zambia live on NBC please.

*CAN The Namibian please do some deep digging and find out how Lazarus Shaduka managed to escape. I smell corruption.

In and From the regions

*WE, the learners of Onashitendo Primary School in Tsandi Constituency are really suffering. Most schools have electricity but not ours. When are we going to enjoy the benefits of our independence? Please Ministry of Education, Information and that of Mines and Energy, help us. They must give us the answer please.
